"The place of the worst barbarism is that modern forest that makes use of us, this forest of chimneys and bayonets, machines and weapons, of strange inanimate beasts that feed on human flesh"

Where were these "patriots" calling for justice when Cheney outed Plame?
Exclusive: Cheney’s admissions to the CIA leak prosecutor and FBI | Murray WaasVice President Dick Cheney, according to a still-highly confidential FBI report, admitted to federal investigators that he rewrote talking points for the press in July 2003 that made it much more likely that the role of then-covert CIA-officer Valerie Plame in sending her husband on a CIA-sponsored mission to Africa would come to light.
Cheney conceded during his interview with federal investigators that in drawing attention to Plame’s role in arranging her husband’s Africa trip reporters might also unmask her role as CIA officer.
Cheney denied to the investigators, however, that he had done anything on purpose that would lead to the outing of Plame as a covert CIA operative. But the investigators came away from their interview with Cheney believing that he had not given them a plausible explanation as to how he could focus attention on Plame’s role in arranging her husband’s trip without her CIA status also possibly publicly exposed. At the time, Plame was a covert CIA officer involved in preventing Iran from obtaining weapons of mass destruction, and Cheney’s office played a central role in exposing her and nullifying much of her work.

AP: Obama should resign if approved UN spying: WikiLeaks founder
President Barack Obama should resign if it can be shown that he approved spying by US diplomatic figures on UN officials, the founder of WikiLeaks said in an interview published Sunday.
"The whole chain of command who was aware of this order, and approved it, must resign if the US is to be seen to be a credible nation that obeys the rule of law. The order is so serious it may well have been put to the president for approval," Julian Assange told Spanish daily El Pais.
"Obama must answer what he knew about this illegal order and when. If he refuses to answer or there is evidence he approved of these actions, he must resign," he added during an Internet chat interview published online.

Perhaps this will interfere with any action against Assange:
"WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has circulated across the internet an encrypted “poison pill” cache of uncensored documents suspected to include files on BP and Guantanamo Bay.
One of the files identified this weekend by The (London) Sunday Times — called the “insurance” file -- has been downloaded from the WikiLeaks website by tens of thousands of supporters, from America to Australia.
Assange warns that any government that tries to curtail his activities risks triggering a new deluge of state and commercial secrets."

Now that Assange has been arrested I think it's reasonable to conclude that had Bin Ladin simply been an embarrassment to the U.S. government instead of providing the war hawks with an excuse to enrich the military/industrial complex, he'd have been in custody long ago.

Yes, I fear Assange has brought this on himself.
In an interview in Spiegel a couple of weeks ago, sometime Obama adviser Bruce Riedel allowed as how it wasn't impossible that they know exactly where OBL is. (In Waziristan, of course, in a nice comfy house.)
Anyway, even if OBL skids on a banana peel tomorrow, the war hawks will find all the pretexts they need. As long as the media can get people whipped up for war ----- no problem.

I've noted this before, but consider the story:
