Why do Lib Whites deny the Benefits of Slavery?

Sure there are some of you insisting that slavery kept the black man down, but I'm here to challenge that assertion by claiming that slavery got shit done for the benefit of all Americans.

The following does come from a member of another forum who lists his name as 'Militant Black'.

The United States of America is able to feed it's population very well, and at the same time it's able to feed many outsiders as well.

This is extraordinary considering the fact that only 3% of the U.S's population is in the agriculture field. Even less are doing the actual farming. For this kind of thing to happen, the U.S. has to develop VERY advanced methods of agriculture. In fact, the lives of 97% of Americans depends on the sustenance produced by said farmers, as they can not grow food themselves.

Now lets look at the black contribution to agriculture, number one, black Africans in Africa have had so many contributions through many of their agarian societies it's baffling. But, the question is about slavery. Slaves in the U.S. were all there was to do with agriculture for a long while. They continued to make new and improved methods of agricultural cultivation. Even as uneducated beasts of burden without the many agricultural innovations of African slaves, the U.S. would in NO WAY be able to sustain it's population for over 300 million people.

Also, let's not forget the disease ridden America that existed in colonial times; yellow fever and other diseases ran amuck. And yes Whites cured their own diseases too, but many, such as yellow fever were cured by blacks. Blacks invented and brought over many methods of cleaning one's self such as soaps, shampoos and much more that prevented countless more disease outbreaks.

Then there is the architectural/building projects done by blacks especially in the southern region of the U.S. So many agricultural designs of the Southernmost states comes from Africa. Such as the large agricultural plantations, porches that extend from the house providing protection against the elements and so much more.

Slaves were responsible for landscaping so that environmental barriers are no longer there for the precious WHITE man (many died from disease and infection doing this). Blacks were soon freed and put to welfare project building even more for this ungrateful nation just to be able to provide for their families. Its not as if Whites would have given them educational opportunities, so the blacks learned most of what would benefit America and themselves as a whole because of their slavery.

Why is it that many mostly elite liberal Whites deny that America would be much WORSE off without slavery?

Three responses so far and not one of you could muster a reasonable debate as to why lib whites in particular don't give slavery its due. Do you all refuse to accept the benefit of slavery (especially agriculture) to our American culture as I laid out for you in this thread, not to mention the benefit blacks in general received from this historical chapter of our American life. You may have noticed that the word 'culture' is deeply ingrained in the word 'agri-culture'--just to give you a head's up as to why and how all Americans benefited from slavery.

You've made quite a few claims with no substantiation at all. Are we supposed to take your word that these are historical fact, or are these simply your unsubstantiated opinions?

As a humanitarian I find the practice of buying and selling humans as a commodity then forcing them into a life of servitude and labor for the benefit of their 'owners' unacceptable. Slavery is also a violation of the law in America.

I say we just make all the people who think that slavery is good the slaves. My area of the country could use them to pick up all the trash on the side of the roads. I think one can argue that something good came out of almost anything. That is not the point. Was the gain worth all the pain and suffering that the slaves made? Did they have a choice?
If we turn the tables and make the whites the slaves of the blacks would LibHater be even asking this?

So, who is it that's denying that the exploitation of slaves benefited America? Please identify these people and provide some evidence for such a ridiculous claim.

I'll leave you with just one of the many 5 star reviews of the book 'Time on The Cross' ..The Economics of American Slavery by Fogel and Engerman so as to give you a basic idea as to how and why black slaves earned more money for their labour than did the free laborers, etc. I have not yet read this book, but I have known of the benefits for both our economy and for black American via slavery for some time now. The following is one of those 5 star reviews.

This is one of the best books I've read on American negro slavery. What makes it a valuable edition to the academic literature is that the authors did not go in to this with any ideological axes to grind. Indeed, both are political liberals who thoroughly deprecate the institution of slavery as a social and moral evil. They simply wanted to attain a better understanding of the actual economics of slavery in the Old South by analyzing the Plantation Books (i.e. the financial logs of Southern Planters) and other relevant statistical resources so as to be able to accurately assess what slavery was like and how it affected the salve, the master and southern society as a whole.

Much to their surprise, the authors concluded that slavery, as it was, bore little resemblance to the fictional, fever-swamp, nonsense that is peddled by the NAACP, the Liberal media, Stephen Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and left-wing academics. Remember, these two authors are political liberals. They found that slaves had a better diet and better housing conditions than their wage-slave, immigrant counterparts in the North. They also found that slave families were rarely broken up and that miscagenation between masters and slaves was extremely rare--indeed, almost nonexistent. They also found that many slaves earned substantial incomes-a fact that surprises many people who believe that slaves did not earn money for their labour.

Anyone who really wants to learn the truth about slavery owes it to themselves to buy and read this book...'Time on The Cross'.........
