She showed courage in expressing her views, well knowing that it was politically incorrect.

And I had no problem with her doing so during the pageant, and I vehemently condemned the gossip mongering slime ball, Perez Hilton, for asking his loaded question and then condemning her for answering honestly... and with a point of view held by half of all Californians.

But be that as it may, Prejean specifically violated her contract with the Miss California pageant, first by lying about her photographs, later by granting interviews and speaking to anti-Gay Marriage advocacy groups without permission from pageant officials, and by failing to keep her commitment to appear on Larry King.

That's why the co-executive director of the Miss California Pageant, Shanna Moakler, resigned in protest. Not because of what Prejean said in the Miss USA pageant.

After Miss California USA Carrie Prejean created a stir with her response to a question about gay marriage at last month's Miss USA pageant, questions about her work with gay marriage opponents and nearly nude photos taken of her when she was a teenager put her title in jeopardy.

At a news conference Monday, Moakler angrily accused Prejean of violating the contract she signed with pageant organizers, but Trump announced Tuesday that Prejean would keep her title.

Ms Prejean has had her proverbial 15 minutes of fame.

What made her interesting, amusing and the subject of discussion was not merely her response on gay marriage. It was her immediate claim that she had not won the pageant because of her response, a dubious and rather self serving statement. She then became a spokes-person for the National Organization for Marriage who had themselves become a punch-line with their bizarre "gathering storm" TV ad, which was widely satirized.

Then throw in the news that Miss Carrie's breasts had been augmented and that the implants were paid for by the pageant and the inevitable topless photos, before and after boob job, which did indeed violate her contract. Throw in the Donald and the circus was complete.

We should let Ms. Prejean return to the obscurity which she so richly deserves.

Agreed. That's why I fault that idiot Perez Hilton for politicizing this whole mess, not Miss Prejean.

Alas, as often happens, being thrust into the spotlight - while it may actually exonerate one on the initial 'scandal' - can have the unintended consequence of uncovering additional problems that probably never would have been noticed, had it not been for that spotlight.

Monica Lewinsky comes to mind. After 6 years, 2 Special prosecutors, 4 congressional investigations, a grand jury and a feeding frenzy by the world press, absolutely nothing was ever found that the Clinton's had done wrong in the Whitewater scandal. But without Whitewater, Monica Lewinsky never would have been revealed.

So it is that Carrie Prejean finds herself trying to explain things that never would have seen light, had not Perez Hilton been such a dick.

Throw in the Donald and the circus was complete.

The Donald and Perez Hilton deserve each other. Alas, the pageant doesn't deserve either one of them.

Miss California Carrie Prejean LOSING CROWN

Miss California USA Carrie Prejean, who stirred up trouble for herself when she said gays shouldn't be allowed to marry, got two dreaded words from pageant poobah Donald Trump on Wednesday: "You're fired." Trump and other pageant leaders said Prejean was being sacked not because of the remarks but because she hadn't been holding up her end of the agreement she signed when she entered the pageant.

"This was a decision based solely on contract violations, including Ms. Prejean's unwillingness to make appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organization," the California pageant's executive director, Keith Lewis, said in a statement.

He had complained at a news conference last month that Prejean was skipping Miss California USA events while speaking out against gay marriage at unsanctioned appearances.

There really is no why. That's her one and only job as Miss California... to make appearances she's contractually obligated to make as Miss California.

Miss California USA stripped of crown - "In a series of May 29 e-mails reported by Fox News and confirmed as authentic by the pageant's production company, (Keith Lewis, executive director of the Miss California USA) and Prejean argued over scheduled appearances.

Prejean: “You do not cooperate with me, and you pick and chose the things YOU want me to do. That is not happening anymore. Stop speaking for me. I have MY own voice. What are u gonna do fire me for volunteering for the special olympics hahaha ur crazy . . . ”

Lewis: “Although I do not agree with your directive nor is this letter an indication of our intent to waive our contract rights, we do not want to escalate the situation with you. In good faith, we will simply ask that you provide us all of the details so that we can block it in on our master calendar . . . ”

Now, Lewis said in his statement, “it has become abundantly clear that Carrie is unwilling to fulfill her obligations under our contract.”

(Prejean's lawyer Charles LiMandri) disagreed. He said that arguments over how to handle appearances and a proposed book by Prejean were being negotiated with Lewis and Trump through Monday.

“We had no signs that there were any problems” until yesterday, LiMandri said."
