The opposing interests stated their views. If there had been misrepresentation, the other side could have easily pointed that out. The majority have spoken. One has to accept the vote, otherwise the whole process becomes a mockery.

Carrie clearly violated her contractual agreement with the pageant. She appeared in several sets of topless photos, not just the one that she claimed. Nevertheless as Trump, who always strikes me as nearly as much of an airhead as his pageant contestants, runs the show, he can make the decisions he chooses.

Andy Borowitz sees the alignment of the new and old beauty queens as a sign of "the end of days."

Just hours after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin voiced her support for embattled Miss California Carrie Prejean, Biblical scholars noted that the alliance between the former and present beauty queens is prophesied in the Holy Scriptures.

While many observers have called the Palin-Prejean link-up predictable, few suspected that it was in fact predicted in The Book of Revelations.
"The unholy alliance between Sarah Palin and Carrie Prejean is explicitly stated in the Book of Revelations as a harbinger of the End of Days," said the reverend Dr. Davis Logsdon, Dean of the University of Minnesota's School of Divinity. "They're right in there, after the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse."

But Dr. Logsdon was quick to point out that the first person to notice the Palin-Prejean reference in the Bible's book of prophecy was actually the sixteenth-century seer Nostradamus, legendary for his predictive powers.
According to Dr. Logsdon, in 1555 Nostradamus predicted the alliance between the two right-wing beauties when he wrote, "The slayer of beasts shall meet the barer of breasts."

When asked whether the alliance between Gov. Palin and Miss California means that the world is about to end, Dr. Logsdon was unequivocal: "That would be the best-case scenario."

The vote was a mockery, much in the recent US tradition, where G. Bush blatantly stole an election, not just in California, but for the whole of America.

The majority speaking seems to have little bearing on the final outcome of some elections, and that is the real mockery of the democratic process.

Not only that, but majoritarianism ("the democratic process") is a mockery of logic.

It was skewed by disproportionate religious intervention - so yes.

What form did this 'disproportionate religious intervention' take?

I'm not sure what the Founding Fathers would have thought about gay marriage, but I know at least three of them would turn in their graves if they knew important civil rights issues were being left to the discretion of a majority.

Anyway, beauty pageants make me sad. You don't have to be a genius to know these things, hell, pick up the U.S.A. Today if nothing else.

What form did this 'disproportionate religious intervention' take?
Appeals to personal morality rather than democratic republican principle as a basis for law are always unhealthy influences on political processes, and religious institutions made such appeals in mass.

Act that your principle of action might safely be made a law for the whole world.

They did, but unfortunately, you had tax-exempt religious organizations pumping millions into the campaign, thus putting many, many more false claims on television and the radio than could possibly be discredited by the lesser-funded side.

Isn't it nice when out-of-state religious zealots can buy votes?

There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.
