It depends on whether those consequences are fair. If those consequences are not fair and they are visited upon the person who exercises free speech, then the one who who creates those consequences should be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Do you not agree?

No, I happen not to agree. Further, I'm not going to make generalisations out of the specifics of this case. We do not know what opinion Perez had of the girl before she aired her opinion, it could be that P's opinion of her changed simply because she said what she said. We'll never know.

She said something, and paid the price. Fairness has very little to do with it. If you're trying to win a pageant, try not to p*ss off whoever's judging you. It's quite simple, and it's a judges job.

Well, I dunno about you, but it seems to me that if you're a judge and you give a contestant low marks just because you don't like her opinion on a controversial issue upon which there are valid arguments "for" and "against", then you ain't fit to be a judge.

I think you're wrong. Giving people marks on what they say and do during a competition is what judges do. How else would they decide who wins? Seriously? It, actually, makes no difference what she said or who she said it about, a judge is there to judge, it's why they're called ... judges.

a competition is what judges do.
It's on the judge application form, I would imagine. And people entering a competition should expect judgment.

    Grandpa h.

Sure they do. Fair impartial judgment. Not biased judgment.

So, she didn't win. Perfectly simple. And nothing to do with fair.

She didn't win. Fairplay was thrown out the window because of personal bias. Fairplay was supposed to be the cornerstone of competition. But it never is. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

But anyone who has the guts to be politically incorrect to express his/her honest opinion is a true winner in my book.

A beauty pageant has nothing to do with fairplay. The winner can only ever win based on subjective judgement. Fair has nothing to do with it.
