Remember. This Is not touched up in a recording studio ( at least if it is it has not been exposed yet) That is his real voice.
An interesting point. I watched Miley Cyrus guest singing her big hit, The Climb, last week and found myself, somewhat to my dismay, very unimpressed with her vocals and actually wondered how much of her music depends on studio manipulation.

Her version of The Rose was pretty meh, if you ask me.
Agreed... as Simon keeps saying about Lil, she roared in like a lion during the season's beginning, but she hasn't impressed me for many weeks.

Same with Megan Joy. I was a big fan of hers and I still believe she could be amazing given the right songs with the right styling. But damn, girl, she just kept making one horrid song choice after another, week after week, until I finally conceded, Sweety, if you can't pick 'em better than that, then I guess you really don't belong up there.

It's like Kara (?) said, it's about more than just being able to sing... it's about artistry. Creating something unique and amazing. Adam has shown that week after week.

(in a proper musical theatre fashion to boot)
Apparently that actually is his background -- musical theatre.

Yes, that is his background, it's also a tiny handicap. If you ask me, at least ...

Every week Adam Lambert seems to by trying to do everything he can to deliver the best performance he can conceive and deliver.

The others all seem to be merely doing everything they can to avoid being in the bottom three.

Also, what impresses me about Lambert is his respect for the musicians whom he's working with. Very clearly, as well, they respect him.

This guy really is not only good but also,in my view, a truly great performer and singer.

Get used to him. Unless "there be demons", he has a very long career ahead of him.

Oh, it's a one-horse race, alright. I just don't think he'll translate that well internationally... Most of the American Idol winners don't, for some reason. Even though they're always miles more talented than the UK equivalents!

I would agree about the one-horse race, but I have yet to figure out how Americans decide who to vote for... who knows what will happen.

Here's some fun and interesting American Idol trivia.

-- Most Albums sold... Kelly Clarkson, with 9.8 million, followed closely by Carrie Underwood, with 9.4 million sold.

(However, given that Underwood got started 3 years later, I'd say that puts her well in the lead)

-- The best selling single album was Underwood's "Some Hearts", at 6.7 million.

-- This was followed by Clarkson's "Breakaway" (6 million), Chris Daughtrey's "Daughtry" (4.4 million) and Clay Aiken's "Measure of a Man" (2.7 million)

(So who is Aiken's market, exactly????)

-- The most downloads of a single song was Jordin Spark's "No Air" duet with Chris Brown, followed by Underwood's "Before He Cheats", Clarkson's “Since U Been Gone”, Daughtrey's “It’s Not Over” and Sparks again with "Tattoo".

(I'm surprised Clarkson's megahit, "My life would suck without you" isn't up there)

-- Grammys: Clarkson 2, Jennifer Hudson 1 plus an Oscar.

-- Most albums sold by artists from one season: Season 5 -- Chris Daughtrey (5th place), Eliot Yamin (3rd) and Kelly Pickler (6th), all of whom outsold 1st place winner Taylor Hicks.

2nd place finisher Katherine McFee recently guest starred on CSI: New York.

-- Favorite 'Rat Pack' - Season 5's Kelli Pickler, two time Dancing with the Stars winning pro and aspiring country singer Jullianne Hough, and country phenom, Taylor Swift.

Why don't they let people play their own instruments in the UK ones like they can on American Idol.

I think its a lot better if people who can play the guitar or piano can do it.

Wow, he did it again, didn't he. For 'Disco Night', Lambert pulled off an outrageously creative and soulful rendering of Donna Summer's 'If I can't have you', fantastically presented (the outfit, the lighting) and sung beautifully enough to leave Paula Abdul in tears. I don't normally like higher end tenors, but DAMN!, he can sing.

And I think the judges were right about this being one of the most talented groups yet. I think probably Lil and Anoop will be going home tonight, but there's no one I really think deserves to go... some were just less great than the others.

I'm thinking Season 5 was about as talented, but they (or any other season) didn't have a superstar like Lambert. I suspect Taylor Hicks won because he had a unique combination of traits needed to win that show: variety show charisma and charm, a goofy underdog appeal, and a versatile 'Soul Patrol' style. Alas, that didn't translate into a major league recording artist, although he apparently does well touring the smaller venue club circuit. Still, the show provided a fairly large number of reasonably successful artists, led by Chris Daughtry. Then there's Elliot Yamin (much better with new dental work and hair style), successful country B-listers Kelly Pickler and Bucky Covington, Katherine McPhee and heart throb Ace Young.

Here's hoping this years Idol grads can find equal success.

The British counterpart to American Idol, Britain's Got Talent, has produced quite a few surprises.

This is just remarkable: YouTube - Susan Boyle - Britains Got Talent 2009 Episode 1 - Saturday 11th April

She's got a personality alright. And from a musician, just as much talent as pretty much anyone who's ever been on one of these shows.

And this one is just as good: YouTube - BGT- Choir boy Andrew Johnston's 1st Audition Pie Jesu

    That note at 2:07. Wow.

I'm sorry, but I'd agree with you if you were right.

Had this discussion...the British counterpart to American Idol is actually X-Factor. There's a thread about it round here somewhere. But yes, Susan Boyle is very good indeed.
