I think there are basically two kinds of punk bands: Those that sound like the end of a good time, and those that sound like its beginning. Both can be valid, and both can have an organic sound and energy to them. When it became more commercialized (before my time, really) it definitely saved time and energy on behalf of bands themselves, but it mostly destroyed the punk rock form.
