What does that even mean -- "without science"?

honesty

are all basic tenets of science. All of which are related to "evidence", "documentation, and "data".

You can't prove something without actually participating in any of those skills I listed. So what exactly to you expect us to even do here?

Ok so you are a man living long long ago before science books or before anything labeled, science.

If you asked yourself "How do I know I am real" "How do I know I exist"
"How do I know this life is real" What would your answer to yourself be" ?

If these are all science then I asked my question the wrong way. I'd like to know how you know your life is real without any scientific documentation to read? Critical thinking, honestty, and logic are hopefully things that you posses so ovecourse you have to use them to aswer the qusetion. Sorry I didn't make it more clear. I want to know how YOU know you are real without quoting it from a source written by someone else?

Here's another way to ask it. If you had to think for yourself and couldn't rely on what someone else had written to define your reality for you. How would you know you were real? Alive? How would you know you existed?

Ok, well for anyone who is tired of the same old pointless circle, tail chasing debates that get recycled over and over again, who would like to try something new and step outside your comfort zone of boring recycled arguments for a moment. Please take a look at this thread and try to contribute an actual meaningful response so we can have an interesting discussion/debate that may lead somewhere we haven't all been a hundred times before! To those who would rather poke insults at anything that threatens to drag you outside your "head in the sand" debating style just stick to what you know on the countless other threads that will go back and forth with completely predictable jargon regurgitated over and over never to make you feel threatened that you may have to actually look at something in a new way. You throw the words "science" and "evidence" around like they are a separate form of solving your question. Which is what everybody else in these threads are doing.

I thought it may be interesting and thought stimulating to see how anyone would go about convincing me that this supposed reality we are all experiencing is actually real or provable or true without using scientific data. Look at it as an exercise and try to humor me.

In order to convince you that this reality is real then I would have to compare this reality with another reality, in which case you would still question if it were real or not.

What I used there was deductive reasoning. Something that is needed in science. So already I have failed the test.

Reality is not an object that can be compared and contrasted.

Consciousness (uh another scientific term) gives the homo sapien (uh oh another one) the ability to be aware. Whatever that homo sapien is introduced to will absorb the information and process it.

Thats all that needs to be said. If you want to make an argument that their can be a "higher consciousness" where the information will be processed in a different way then the way it works currently then, you may be able to say reality is not a static image in the grand scheme of things.

Of course, that doesn't make it any less fake or unreal.

then your asking about metaphysics. In which case it is merely a matter of whether you want to accept what is offered. And that is done with critical thinking, honesty and logic.

You know you exist because you are a self aware animal. Light shines through your eyes which is then processed by the brain. This creates an image, that image is reality. You can't say it is fake because you can't compare it to something more real then that image.

so awareness itself is what is real then by your defenition?

In the end your senors determine the image. You can perhaps stimulate those senors artificially, but the main point is that those senors are the only things you have.

The senors don't have the ability to question whether or not they are being stimulated by something artificial or natural.

This is yet another one of those claims where people like theists thrive on.

I can't prove that my brain receptors are being stimulated by an artificial machine to produce an image and I can't disprove it either.

When you can't prove or disprove something it becomes a faulty dead end claim that deserves NO thought.

It would just mean your brain has not evolved in a certain way.

If I can sense a smell three thousand miles away, and you can't does that mean your experience of reality is fake and mine is more real?

No, it just means my brain has evolved in way where it processes and displays more information.
