Muslim woman refused French citizenship for her 'submissive' views

Muslim woman refused French citizenship for her 'submissive' views - Telegraph

France has refused to grant citizenship to a burqa-wearing Moroccan woman on the grounds that her "radical" interpretation of Islam is incompatible with its values.
The legal ruling, which has just been published, is the first time a Muslim applicant had been rejected by France due to their religious practices.

She wears a black burqa that covers all her body except her eyes, which are visible through a narrow slit, and lives in "total submission" to her husband and male relatives, according to reports by social services.
"She has adopted a radical practice of her religion, incompatible with essential values of the French community, particularly the principle of equality of the sexes," said a ruling by the Council of State seen by Le Monde newspaper.
So does this demonstrate those who follow extreme islam are unequal and thus unacceptable?

So, when will the French be taking away the citizenship of people in BDSM relationships? After all, that's really what these "traditional" marriages are.

Possibly unfair to BDSM aficionados, a BDSM relationship is about deriving sexual pleasure; this form of submission seems to be about stifling it.

It's more that BDSM is about not being comfortable having sex with an equal. Just like traditional marriage.

    Unequal?? To what??
Unacceptable? For French citizenship, apparently, yes.
Whatsamatter, Arawn? An immigrant applying for citzenship -- a privilege, not a right -- insists on clinging to social values (not religious, really) that are diametrically opposed to those of modern secular French society.

Maybe you want to hand out passports like confetti, but apparently the French don't.

You seem a little confused, TC. Nobody has had her citizenship taken away. This lady wants to be French, but doesn't want to play the game.
She wants to have her cake and eat it too (if you call that eating cake...).

Well too bad. If a society has values, it has to know where to draw the line.

Ok, but what about those who are already French and don't want to play the game, either? Do we deport them?

I understand where you’re coming from, I just think it’s a bad analogy. Consensual BDSM involves role playing and to be honest is all a bit silly rather than sinister, but as this is totally off topic, I’ll leave it there.

I think it's entirely on topic. If any entire culture enshrines BDSM relationships as standard, that doesn't change anything.

Beside-the-point exaggeration, like your other posts on this thread.
The question is: How high do you set the bar for citizenship of your country, a place that has things going for it that you'd kinda like to preserve?

You would apparently leave it lying on the ground.

I'm simply asking for consistency, something that is sorely lagging in matters of immigration and citizenship.

Consider that, to become a citizen of the USA, you must pass a test on American history. Why do people born here get to be citizens without passing this test?

Because they are by birth citizens, you can't just deport someone's child for not knowing who Jefferson Davis was. The double standard is due to the fact that people want their children to be protected as citizens no matter what, but prefer to be more choosy about the new blood they let in, a perfetly understandable concept.
