About: Most Annoying Member Redux thread

Why is the Most Annoying Member Redux thread permitted to continue?

All it is is a side door to insult and flaming? What makes it any different from the other two threads recently closed because of the degraded atmosphere they were causing amongst members? Those now dead threads (and rightly so) were The Most Idiotic Statement thread and Volconvo`s 10 Worst Debators. What is the difference in results between those two and Most Annoying Member Redux?

An inquiring mind looking for answers based on consistency wants to know.

I would think that the PM button would work well enough for that. But hey, that's just me. Making a pubic spectacle out of anyone in a defamatory way seems counterproductive in a debate forum.

I realize that the thread was started just for fun, but as have many others, it has veered out of control. At least "annoying" isn't as bad as "worst debater" or "idiotic" in the titles. And if we totally disallow poking fun at other members, the forum might get less fun. But I agree, it's currently just an extension of violent feuds that have occupied many other sections of the forum.

Maybe we can reach a compromise. Perhaps if possible we can disable quotes and links in that thread, so there isn't extensive discussion and linking/quoting posts to "prove" that a member's annoying. That only encourages flaming. Just list a name, a friendly reason, and maybe even a not to let anyone pick up a wrong meaning.

Give peace a chance. Otherwise the mods should and will shut it down.

Even in the Idiotic Quotes it was suggested that people not include links or names, but the thread creator didn't like that.

tinybear, the reason it's being taken seriously is because it is a way for rules to be circumvented and for the grudges to bleed over to other threads.

As far as consistency is concerned, it doesn't make sense to be in trouble for insult in one thread but for insults to be freely tossed in another.

And to elaborate on something Heather brushed on, a moderator should never participate in that sort of thing. They should have Infraction points like the rest of us if they want to stoop to that level like the rest of us.

I know what kind of post they are intending to get, and I will post one there now just as an example. But notice the distinction I will make.

When you see what I post, look back on other posts and you'll see the problem.

Well if that's the case, keep in mind that even the patrons shouldn't make messes at discotheques; otherwise, they wouldn't be welcome anymore.

Anyway, sometimes reformists are excessively idealistic, but at least there will be good results. Many of your threads that had good intentions but got closed down ended up not being fun anymore.
