Prince Harry will not serve in Iraq; will he quit the army as promised?

He shouldn't go. Anyone can see he presents a security risk if he does go. The decision not to send him to Iraq was based on common sense.

I don't think he should've said that if he were not allowed to go he'd quit the army though. Why on earth did he say that, I wonder?

It's strange, previous English princes have been allowed to wage wars, even leading their armies into battle. Shows the softening of their monarchy and the strong interference by governent.

Quite honestly, and you guys in the US, you can take this as a compliment.... But Bush underestimated the US people's ability to not follow as sheep...... although it has worked for a couple of years at the begining of the whole crap after 9/11.... people began to open their eyes and start to realize they overestimated Bush and now all his plans of coming out as a big ass hero for the US people is pretty much became a pipe dream.

In all honesty, if Bush was smart, when he loses his power of presidency, he ought to go into hiding, because if he's not now.... he will soon be the Planet's Most Wanted.

Many of us knew from the beginning, but our election process isn't what it used to be.

Also, since when can you just "quit" the army? I know in the US you would need a very high command officer to do that. (Admiral+).. Of course the Prince of the UK wouldn't have special treatment............

It is unclear to my why the Brits don't just move the Windsor gang to a tourist theme park and be done with it. Or perhaps make them the basis for an ongoing reality TV program (which would be not far from the current situation except that the BBC could at least sell commercials to help recoup the cost.)

Mozart they don't have to DO. Other than attend functions and strive to pretend the UK is still united

RickSp my bet is if the English offered them for auction Bush would by them for the USA

The monarchy is a marvelously unifying force, the citizenry loves them with all their missteps, they contribute to national identity. They seem to owe more to the accomplishments of their ancestors, but there is the expectation the same genetic material will endow them with the capacity to do the same again in the future.
