loser?
heh.. compare what he accomplished with his life to other people - then see if he was a loser or not.. yes, that incident was definitely retarded, but one dumbassed stunt isn't grounds for defaming a person's character. i doubt there's a single person here who hasn't done something stupid themselves.

Kid better off without his dad? Loser? That was bitter, Daniel...
We all have to go sometime, and Irwin was a risk taker. I wonder if he had ever contemplated his own demise...
"Arms in the hands of the citizens may be used at individual discretion for the defense of the country, the overthrow of tyranny or private self-defense." -- John Adams

i'd hope that dan isn't the type of person who always looks for the bad in people, and ignores the good.. and, can't say i'd ever wish a child to have to grow up without either their father or mother (unless they were truly abusive).
if irwin's mentality was anything like the daredevils who launch dirt bikes over huge gaps, he probably did think about how he'd end up dying - he just wasn't afraid to put his life at risk.. every interview i've ever seen with daredevils, the reporter would ask that sort of question - and every one of them always had some sort of quick response. quick enough to suggest that they had thought about it.

A LOSER?????
Jeez, Daniel, your petty, pathetic, jealousy is showing. Australia will, in fact, hold a state funeral for Irwin, one of the most beloved and recognized television personalities in the world, as witness the very fact of this thread. He certainly made a sizeable fortune, much or most of which he's put into his conservation and educational efforts.
Let's see how much of this you get upon your death.

I don't suffer from insanity... I thoroughly enjoy it

He tempted fate daily. I am not going to shed crocodi...... (thats too easy)
It was only a matter of time.
As for the kid better off without his dad.....
Should we also make HEROES of those who do not fasten their children into car seats?
Or leave them in a hot car with the windows rolled up? These things could be negligent. What he did was an act of malicious mischief, not negligence.

that's pretty sad if you ask me... the guy spent his whole life doing good for the world, and you choose to pick on ONE dumb thing that he did.. (and yet, nothing happened to his kid.... nothing at all.)
oh well, there's always "noise" on any story/issue.. seems like the overwhelming majority of people seem to prefer to remember irwin for his accomplishments, rather than this single event. some people can't see the forest for the trees.

So do cops, firemen, racecar drivers and Alaska fishermen. All losers, I suppose.Quote by: Gr8fuldaniel

conservationists work to preserve life...

I only came and posted here because for all of the thing in this world, it's sad when a good guy goes tragically.
Irwin was a good guy, sure, he showboated for the camera's, sure he took some risks that most people wouldn't.
But why did he do that? Most of us, realize he did those things because he wanted to educate children, people to the beauty he saw in Nature. In the creatures around us that most people (and generally rightly so) avoid.
The real tragedy here, the one that just hits me as a father, his Daughter, Bindi was supposed to host the series he was doing this shoot for. She's 8, there is a pic out there of her, mom and dad with a fluffy croc, you could just feel the love and fun she had with her father.
That hits ya.
gr8ful, it's sad that a person like you cannot see past your own sour perceptions of life and realize that others do things for noble reasons. You're a very bitter, jealous and angry fellow, I hope one day, you figure out that your pessimism will be your undoing.
Irwin may have been a risk taker, he may have been a little cheesy with the "Crickey" tag line, but he did it for something he loved, because he loved animals and wanted to help kids namely, see there are wonderful things out there in the world.
Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route?
