Christian Skate Time; A human Rights Violation

New York state's Division of Human Rights says a private roller rink offering "Christian skate times" has violated the law because it discriminates against non-Christians.

In its marketing, Skate Time 209 in Accord, N.Y., offers "tot" skates and "tween" skates for ages 6-13 along with family nights and adult disco parties, according to the Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y.

But the rink's April 19 newspaper ad offering a time set aside Sunday afternoon for Christian music is evidence of a human rights violation, the state agency maintains.

Can anyone tell me wtf is wrong with this country.. oh this article spells out a big chunk of it....

Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route?

If you aren't going to comment on the subject at hand, go away. If you can disproive the story, go for it.

    Otherwise, troll someone elses thread.

Yah this is a big a deal. A major assault on religious freedom in America. Sure. Right.

And it is what you get for reading trash mongers like the World Net Daily.

The WND reports this horrible outrage on July 4th, at least three days after the state Division of Human Rights announced that they had dropped their inquiry into "Christian Skate Time".

State lets roller-rink owners skate by with Christian night

Note the dateline - July 01, 2006. Three days before the World Net Daily reported this non-story.

Okay, well see, now Rick has something to offer.

The issue at ahnd is, why did they do this in the first place.

    Oh that's a non-issue right!

Thats the easy part. They did it to attract the flock after church on Sunday. The skate rink owner has a "hell" of an idea. Probably thousands of churh folks looking for something to do with the family on Sunday afternoon.

The discrimination part is tricky. We are supposed to have freedom of, and freedom from religion.
Religious oppression is a primary reason why we Declared Independence.

But then you have the private property of the business owner, he has the right to hold KKK (another christian org.?) skate times if he chooses. He cant however lynch negroes during sKKKate time.

Even if thats a christian practice(?)

Let's see Mr. V, you get alarmed by a non-story in the WND which has you asking "wtf is wrong with this country?"

Now you ask, "why they did this in the first place?" Did what? A bureaucrat briefly did something stupid and quickly retracted it, and now you want to make a big deal about it. Sounds like paranoid Christianity run amuck.

Gr8, where do you find Freedom FROM religion in the Consitution?

Also, I meant why did the Human Rights peeps at the NY State office even file this TO BEGIN with?

Hey Rick, you're right, non-story, they didn't have to get lawyers or anything, they didn't have to initially change the NAME of the day because of Burecrats... nah, hysteria is all on my part. This wasn't anything to be alarmed about, move along people, just a "mistaken" case of Christian Hate by a State office. Nothing to worry about.... this time.

We are granted the freedom from having a religion imposed on us by the constitution.

As to your question...maybe a Jewish or Muslim family complained to the state agency and they were obligated to look into it.

    The First Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,
That means Congress shall not make any laws forcing anyone to believe in a particular religion, or any religion at all.

    This is even more specific
    ARTICLE 18
United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
You may argue that this is not the Constitution, but we are signatories to this treaty. Making it constitutional. The Constitution states that all treaties must be honored

Well, not in so many words, but I'm betting he wouldn't mind if we lost that particular freedom, and we all had to pretend to be just like him. ( In public anyway )

This seems the ultimate irony to me. The God, and founder of his religion ( if you're inclined to believe that sort of thing ) generously grants us free will, and to live, and beleive as we choose, but somehow that same religions followers think that is too gracious a gesture to offer the average swine like us.

I suspect the true motivation for this thread was to get the Libertarian minded folks to attack the idea of "Christian Skate Time", so he could then attack us, but since this is probably a private property issue, I support the guys right to as he pleases on his own property.

What would be niice is if we could get them ( the over zealous Christians ) to extend us a little of that same tolerance.
