| Pragmatist Location: UK London Posts: 1,979 | How far do you think games technology will go? Looking at the advent of gaming technology with the new releases of the xbox 360 and the ps 3 both coming later in the year I was wondering how far gaming could be pushed. I mean as far as I can see you can push the technology until you have a real scene but would this be beneficial to people being able to load a reality of their own effectively?. Partner dumps you thats ok make a scene where they havent really. Fantasise about your partners best friend? make a sex scene with them in it all in your own private world. I was thinking in situations like these it would either be very therapeutic or quite dangerous to the human psyche. Games are on their way where you can scan your own face into them...how far is it before detailed sex games start to appear which you can upload any face into? It probably isnt far away at all. I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs and insanity for everyone, but its always worked for me. Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime." (Ernest Hemingway) |

War is Peace Freedom is Slavery Ignorance is strength Harness the power of Ingsoc, then you can capture someone killed the year before |

| Hot Thosages Posts: 125 | I read a theory that we are living in a program created by advanced humans to see what life was like 'back in the day', but technology is so advanced it seems real.... In the same artical is said that eventually we will become so advanced we will create a similar program with people living in it who are unaware. So in theory we could be a program within a program with a program etc. |

Sure graphics will always ramp up but being able to knock out supports on a bridge and watch as the structure collapses, crushing the ragdolling bodies of soldiers that fall and got caught in the reck with supply trucks falling on top of them, thats something new to look forward to. Once we perfect physics i dont doubt AI will be next. All these things constantly evolve but they have been coming in waves with the new hard ware advances. Like the gob smacked jump in graphic quality from software to the first 3D acceloration cards, just wait till we get an eye full of the first physics proccessors. Mmmmm, 10,000 ragdoll massacre....... |

Even if we do get perfect holographic projectors we will need some kind of physics engine to give the objects within the game the feeling they are real. Physics in game took a real leap foreward with HL2, man that was some incredible stuff... The real future is in PC games, Consoles will always be a few years behind. The best thing Consoels can do is sports. Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route? |
