    Positive Genetic Mutations in humans

My Biology professor challenged us to find a postive genetic mutation in humans that has no negative side effects...the closest i could find were sickle cell anemia which makes it so you cannot get malaria, but the obvious bad effect is the sickle cell anemia disease. The other was Hypermobility or double jointedness but i have found that has negative effects as well.

Does anyone know of any? i've searched and searched but i don't think i am near as good with google as some of you are....heck one of you might just know...its lots of extra credit points too lol so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I heard about a buterfly that 'evolved' very very recently... it was something to do with pollution and colour, and when the butterfly changed colour it was somehow given better odds against the previous colour, and the previous colour died out. Maybe you could search for evolution and butterfly?

Positive mutations is sort of a misnomer, it all depends on the environment and the selection pressure that is exerted on the organism; it is "relative".

well there are many positive mutations in other animals but i cannot locate any in humans....

many scientists feel that humans are devolving instead of evolving as far as physical and survival traits go atleast.

There is no such thing is devolving. Evolution does not have an actual direction as such, it is what ever is most fit for the situation at hand that prevails. With humans, we're controlling our selection pressures with our tamed environment and most importantly - Medicine. This has allowed all genotypes to proliferate.

Human speech and the speech gene. It seperates us from everything else.

Actually the entire sum of what we are is mutation after mutation, but one that has NO negative side effects....thats tough if not impossible.

The question must be considered properly. It has been mentioned that the notion of 'positive' in this context is misleading, and i agree. And to consider one mutation out of the context of the other mutations the organism carries is also misleading; agreed.

So, what we're looking for is not a movement of the nature of the human animal but an expansion in what humanity is; and if you look at civil/rural structure in one hand and human personality in the other you see just such an expansion. The problem is that this individualistic monoculture we live in has interrupted our natural... speciation, perhaps? There does seem to be some dominant personality types, but that could be an illusion.
