Cure / Treatment for Alzheimer's disease

There may be a cure or, at least, a safe, inexpensive treatment for Alzheimer's disease: coconut oil.

Certainly, adding a little coconut oil to an Alzheimer sufferer's diet will do little to no harm. Coconut oil is readily available in most organic food stores.

Further study on the therapeutic benefits of coconut oil, and particular ketones, will need to be done by the public sector to confirm the findings. There's no profit in it for medical industry corporations so they cannot be expected to be part of this life saving, suffering alleviating potential.

Let me get this straight. You, a perfectly rational human being interested in science, accept news from the Christian Broadcast Network - described as a 'fundamentalist Christian' network founded by Pat Robertson - regarding a brand new snake oil for treating Alzheimer's. Not only that, but coconut oil is known to be quite unhealthy.

    Is this a joke?

A man said to the universe:
    "Sir, I exist!"
    "However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
    A sense of obligation."

Just a thought, Google "coconut oil and Alzheimer's disease" and see what's returned.

Natural News (two links).. Alliance For Natural Health (from wikipedia: The ANH lobbies against regulation of dietary supplements, in favour of alternative medical approaches).. Thanks for confirming the ridiculousness of the snake oil. It's funny how you bought this hook, line, and sinker.

What have the two links got to do with the topic?

For an interesting discussion about the topic see, Coconut oil & Alzheimer's, which includes a reference from some research regarding a product derived from coconut oil.

In your view, why do you think all of these people who have no vested interests and who claim improvements are lying or are delusional?

Because I'm not gullible, and I demand greater levels of evidence than the testimonials of random people and articles found on such esteemed anti-science websites as Natural News and the Christian Broadcasting Network.

Might I suggest that you then do your own research, and arrive at a conclusion based on that. It's very easy these to investigate a claim, so easy it can often be done in minutes. But, if you prefer and by all means, denounce a piece of news merely because you don't approve of the messengers. And, by all means again, ignore the link I offered you that points to research published in the academic literature that suggests merit in the matter under discussion.

Be careful, AC, sometimes the line between being not gullible and closed-minded is difficult to notice.

So, hypothetically, I could avoid alzheimer's by making some alterations to my food choices? I hope I remember to do it (sorry -- I had to make a cheesy joke somewhere). More generally, my bad diet choices are really starting to catch up with me.

The problem is that I can search on many things of this nature and find links that will strongly support it.
I lived with Fibromyalgia for over 40 years and was advised of what seemed innumerable cures and all seemed to have significant support. I am quite familiar with this phenomena.

Yes after my arrest and subsequent exacerbation of my depression I when to my doctor who gave me a new antidepressant that also is proscribed for anxiety and Fibro. It basically eliminated all my Fibromyagia symptoms and has continued to do so, except in the most extremely stressful situations, for two and a half years. It is important to note that in that span I have gone through some very rough times.

The medication in question is Cymbalta. It is expensive, but works wonders for me.

Thanks for this, BlackSheep. I'll pass the information along. However, like you, my friend has also tried all manner of drugs and therapies. She may already be aware of Cymbalta. Very, very troubling condition.
