| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 4 | Hi to all, My first post, I thought that I'd ask your opinions of a subject that's close to my heart! Trusted computing in a nutshell, is a combination of hardware/software that 'checks' the programs that you're attempting to run to ensure that they are DRM (Digital Rights Management) compliant (i.e no warez, mp3's or dodgy dvd's). There's much more to this subject though, and if you look at the following links they'll give you a bit more info. https://www.trustedcomputinggroup.org/home http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html Cheers, IWTB Your political compass Economic Left/Right: -6.63 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.26 |

My computer is a tool which I have bought and I would like to use how I want, if I choose to use it illegally its at my own risk as I know the penalties. Proactive management which is not in my control is definitely anathema to what I think computers are all about. Do you put GPS units on crowbars just incase they might be used to break into other peoples houses? When (maybe I should say if ) I commit an offence let them prosecute me for that. Until the time that they can prove I have committed one I dont want them anywhere near me or my lovely machine.I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs and insanity for everyone, but its always worked for me. That's the equivalent of saying "toilets in public restrooms should be equipped with cameras so we can catch anyone who tries to rape a child in the toilet stalls". Pure idiocy. The government is corrupt enough as is. Last thing we need is tools for them to monitor us EVEN MORE on our comptuers. And imposing their BS totalitarian laws on us to a more severe extent. Big brother is watching you. Look up and see what the carnivore program is. The FBI uses it and has been using it for some time to monitor EVERYTHING typed over instant messages through clients that allow them to do it (and one's that don't allow them to do it I would suspect). If it works, and it's stupid, it's not stupid. |

| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 4 | Four replies, and as I expected, not one agreeing with the concept! So what makes the TCPA think that this will be accepted? Or will it be force-fed to us? The scary thing is, that even if a user wanted nothing to do with Windows, they wouldn't even be able to install Linux! Why not just barcode us and have done with it? To stop that kind of thing it takes more than protest, considering 75% of people want guns taken away and cameras in every niche. Remember, when fighting evil, violence is an acceptable solution. If it works, and it's stupid, it's not stupid. |

| BANNED Posts: 5,021 | Why would they even bother with this crap anyway? Oh yeah...most people on the internet are pathetic theives who steal music, movies, tv shows, and as much other intelectual property as they please and then claim it's the companies fault for pricing it too high (or some other BS). To be honest, i can't imagine that this crap will be any harder to crack than the programs themselves. |
