| Sedimentary Rock Location: SoCal Posts: 17 | There is a new product coming about by a former Apple Computers excutive that will track things. What it is, is a small, cheap (around $20) chip that can tell you where it is in the world. It uses GPS and radio frequency to transmit the location back to a base station. Each base station has a range of like 2 miles. Heres the kicker: The base stations can work together to create a network of base stations so as more people buy these stations it extends the range. My questions is: Is this a good idea to manufacture cheap small chips that can track the location of things (poeple, cars). What if someone drops a chip in your bag, or slips one under your car. Or what about people hacking into the system and finding out where anyone who has a chip is. Then there is the relationship aspect. If this technology becomes common place then it will almost be expected that once you are intimate with someone that they will want to have access to your location chip. I dont think I want my wife to know exactly where I am at any given time. I am not hiding anything, but I like my privacy. Any thoughts? Heres the link to the company that is making these chips WozNet Website Yes, I know I don't know how to spell. What can I say, I was born in the era of spellcheckers. |
