    Charlatan's time machine!

Okay, we want to go around in time. Basically you could do this by opening dimensions and accelerating the reactions in the doorways so that the person will while walking through dimensions only a milimeter thick - a short walk - accelerate through the aging process of the universe, ending up a lot into the future.

T go back in time you would need to reverse the charge of normal reactions in the universe, leading to a going backwards in time.

Of course the best way to accelerate or reverse reactions is to just stick things in multiple wormholes, one on top of another.

If we were to view the natural reactions in reality we could just accelerte one aspect with a knock on effect to all the other reactions.

As my brother said recently, if time travel by humans is possible, wouldn't we have heard about it by now?
I believe in its likelihood exactly to the extent I believe in God. It strikes me as mostly theoretical physics. Even if we will ever do it, we are going up against an uncertain thing. Obviously, one future could be replaced by the other. It's a fascinating idea, but obviously very dangerous.

We do know that time travel is possible into the future due to it's relativity. Time travel into the past seems unlikely due to the above points that Gramps mentioned.

I'm curious, how does one know where the earth will be at some point in the future? What does one use for a reference point in making such measurements? Wouldn't a jump into the future most likely land the time traveler somewhere out in empty space?

I am hoping by saying relativity Electrum is referring to accelerating towards the speed of light, which would probably be easier to do when not on the earth. It's a simple exchange, speed for time. the faster something moves then the slower time moves for it.

Really my time machine will work. If they were to accelerate atomic reactions you go forward, if you reverse atomic reactions in that cell they go back wards.

Powering this thing might be a problem. Maybe my fusion reactor could do it?

Simply place said people into the bloody machine and go forwards or backwards. If you go backwards there might be no way of returning though, as you will need a power source. So starting here, go forwards!

Oh hang wait a minute, you would need to have the area around the 'time machine' included in the reaction acceleration or reversals, of course. Now that is a bummer...

Either you know a lot more about science than I do, in which case I would ask you to explain the language of your posts to a layperson, or you are simply using technobabble and perhaps don't even know what you yourself are talking about.

Either way, time travel seems an impossibility, both with the known laws of physics and also by the fact we have never seen any travelers back in time (and considering that this is perhaps the most exciting period of time in history, with all the new technology, you'd think we'd have seen some of 'em by now). Although to the latter, there are a few acceptable explanations as to why we haven't seen them (perhaps they don't want to be seen, they can't be seen, or they can only enter "copy" universes that are identical to this one but not this one). So who knows? At this point it's speculation, and it's fun to see in sci fi, but I'm not going to give it any scientific credibility unless we have some reason to believe it actually can be done.

Time travel into the past is impossible or we'd have visitors from the future here.

We are time traveling right now, into the future.

We can accelerate our travel into the future by moving faster.

More than that I just don't know.

Religion is poison because it asks us to give up our most precious faculty, which is that of reason, and to believe things without evidence. It then asks us to respect this, which it calls faith. - Christopher Hitchens
