| Who is stronger, the person who can fight off the flu or the person who can get almost always persuade the person who can fight off the flu to take care of them? Act that your principle of action might safely be made a law for the whole world. - Immanuel Kant |

| All of this "women are better than men" tripe isn't humorous in the least. And it is being propagated with insulting remarks from a moderator. Listen up! An obvious explanation could be that a gene involved in the immune reaction to certain pathogens might be on the X chromosome. Women have two, men have one. Yet another obvious thought is that our ancestors were hunter-gatherers. Men spent more time away from the base camp on extended hunting expeditions, sleeping in the open, where they were less exposed to diseases that are more frequently propagated in close confines, like the tents that the women maintained. Thus, a pathogen could run it's course in the village while the men were gone. As a result, women tend to have a greater resistance. It's still on the X chromosome. So ancient men went out and risked their lives hunting huge animals in order to support their wives and children, while women went out and picked nuts and berries. Ah! I see the light! Why should I risk my life in search of big, dangerous game instead of picking nuts and berries? I concede the point. The men were whipped. From The Treaty of Tripoli, Art. 11, passed unanimously by the senate -- "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion;" |

Listen up! For a given value of "better", women are better than men. In this instance, it's the immune system that is better, as stated in the article, ergo: women are better than men when it comes to immune systems. Luckily for you guys, unlike some other boards I frequent, mods at Volconvo aren't forced to hand in their sense of humour at the door before they start work ...

Did I say a joke of yours was off topic? I did say that I couldn't wait for an example of your humour, but that was a different thing.. ![]() ps. My attribution to gallo appears to be correct, as far as I can see, Cruella.

| Morality Games: >>Who is stronger, the person who can fight off the flu or the person who can get almost always persuade the person who can fight off the flu to take care of them? A sick male does seem to bring out the nurturing side of many women. On the other hand, so does a perfectly healthy newborn baby. |

| So does this mean I should be more, or less sympathetic when my SO is snivelling in bed for days with a cold? As mentioned above, I'd love to see if these statistics change when different populations are sampled. I suppose we need a waahmbulance on standby? I'll dial whine-one-one. |
