You may or may not have heard of the new show based off of the very same concepts "Fringe" but science already has found ways to do unthinkable things these days, and the future is going to be a strange place. Levitation, "reading...(while wired to a computer)...somebody's mind", controlling weather, robotic soldiers (already in use), and more is all now possible-or soon will be.

Can you do it without looking at them? Can you tell the exact words/images in a person's mind?

Because soon, you can. Imagine all the wonderful things governments...and others...can do with that.

I think its a great show, interesting science, good acting, and great entertainment, I recommend it. Episode 4 and 10 were the best though--although obviously this is a drama--they have to take some concepts and run with them. It was made by the producers of LOST.

Thanks for the link. It appears to be a drama, so I wouldn't put too much faith in seeing nothing but scientifically accurate info in it, at least not without checking it out elsewhere.
I see some of the creators are Star Trek alumni (prominently mentioned on the site) and are involved in the show's creation. As a LONG time Star Trek fan, I'm aware that although Roddenberry tried to be scientifically accurate whenever possible, when the story required it, he was not above making it all up. Warp Drive and the Transporter come to mind.

Researchers are already beginning the process using advanced MRI's. I heard about this on NPR sometime in '07. Also just dug this up with a quick google search. Scientists want MRI to read minds.

Scary stuff but it is inevitable... human nature and all.

Oh yeah for sure they stretch things, but thats part of the show. Ive seen all the first season and i would say 60% of the concepts are true/real...the rest are theoretical and one is a greater stretch, but its good fun

Just the phrase "fringe science" makes me cringe a little inside every time I read it. The drama Fringe is basically X-files without the aliens.

I am part of government, and frankly, I can't imagine anything worse.

Has anyone here read The Men Who Stare At Goats by Jon Ronson? They've been doing this research for decades, and it's never gone anywhere. It's a riveting book, and only too plausible about what has been wrong with the research done on the subject so far.

The point itself being that science is progressing fast, and in the future, these things things people would never beleive now will be possible (as we well know).

Science changes, culture changes, society changes with it. Theres a lot of cool, but scary possibilities...this isnt a conspiracy thing about the government, its just interesting
