ISP's -- DRM for the Internet

Where I live, Time Warner Cable is the only Internet Service Provider for broadband. Comcast just bought Time Warner, who limits outgoing BitTorrent traffic. The BT protocol is completely legal to use. It is illegal to use it to share copy-righted material (as is any protocol), but now ISPs are trying to prevent/limit people from using it, even for legal uses. Who here actually believes this is right? Whether you use bit torrent or not, for legal purposes or not, this isn't right at all. The Internet should be open, and people who pay for a service should have the ability to use it any legal way they want.

Verizon does not limit you, you can get 1.5 megabites when downloading files.

Sooner or lager the demand will result in some company offering it in your area.

Thats not the point. The point is ISPs are trying to dictate what we can do with the service when they have no right to do so.

No, it's absolutely not right. The ISP's sole job is to provide you with a service. They are not the police, lawyers, or our babysitters. They have a God complex if they really think they are entitled to regulate and block the internet as they see fit. Especially when it hinders the use of legal services from third parties. It won't last long though, with the TV studios now streaming their content live via the Internet it's only a matter of time before they start utilizing BT technology to streamline the process. When that happens the ISP's are going to have a lot of unhappy media conglomerates on their hands

I make no claims to the level of my own intelligence, please be as critical as necessary and correct any mistakes I make as I am here for two reasons: 1.)To learn. 2.)Fun.

It's official: Comcast and BitTorrent are calling a truce.
Finally! I hope more ISP's go the same route.
