and Democracy. Democracy is all about our rights. Our current Republic - BIG difference, has no such qualms.. they are very invasive of our rights.
Actually, Democracy is majority rule ... it's not about your rights ... especially if your in the minority. And our Republic is a representative one (using democratic elections) that has very low standards for participation in government ... it is easy for you to get involved to protect the rights which you feel the governmnet has invaded upon.

So, you are saying justice.. free access to information..etc, are "problems'..??
no, I didn't say that ... what I'm saying is that they are subjective ideas that look better on paper than they do in practice. Why should information that is acquired at grat expense and risk (for instance) be made available for free to anyone who wants it? What is justice to you might be revenge or even racism or biggotry to me.

Yeah well.. I like loud music too
Great ... hope your neighbor does to and isn't a bird watcher trying to categorize bird calls while you rock out.

As for capitalism having provided a communal lifestyle ... actually ... it has provided that choice to people who want to live that way. I live in the country on 140 acres and jam when I want and appreciate the sounds of nature when I want ... that choice has been afforded to me by capitalism (and hard work).

I'm glad you don't believe in communal living as a path towards improving your lifestyle and health ... but how do you think living in a pure democracy would improve them? Do you really trust the majority of the population (global, I presume, as you don't want borders) to make decisions that would affect your lifestyle or health? Wouldn't you rather have the control of your own fate?

This is not necessarily true.

Democracy entails egalitarianism perhaps more than it does "majority rule." Egalitarianism can only be had when your rights are respected.

Of course, how do you address such concerns without making yourself
look "ignorant" and "stupid" to FOX News-type people? Or say you mention the possibility of environmental class-ism or racism -- certainly only crazies would only suggest that. Maybe it's fine to point out how in "Muslim countries" only a select few get the prosperity part of the pie and the rest the hardship...but turning such attention to the US supposedly makes one a lunatic.

That is true. The Fox "News" logo ~ what a farce. They do not meet the criteria to qualify as a source of News.. they merely masquerade with that facade.. which in all reality is nothing more than a thinly veiled front for their 24 hr/day of non-stop propaganda venue.

Yep. And Fox Propaganda Inc make Adolph look like an amateur.

I see you like to take part of a statement.. out of context, like your instructor, Fox "news", uses in their.. "news" bytes. I wasn't speaking politically. As for your comment: "it is easy for you to get involved to protect the rights which you feel the government has invaded upon" --?? How does that have anything to do with advances in science.?

We all know (most of us) how our government is set up.. at least it is supposed to be.

Quote:
The U.S. legal system rests upon the principle that the fundamental purpose of government is to protect the inherent rights and freedoms that belong to all people, and to ensure equal treatment for all.
Yes. Then too:

Quote:
In the United States, these rights and freedoms are embodied most explicitly in the first 10 amendments to the Constitution, known as the Bill of Rights, ratified in 1791, and in the "equal protection" clause of the 14th Amendment, ratified in 1868, after the Civil War. Over its history, a great body of statutory law, court decisions, and regulatory procedures have evolved and elaborated the freedoms and rights set out in the Bill of Rights and other provisions of the Constitution.
Also:

Quote:
The First Amendment protects freedom of speech and religious worship. It also protects the right of people to organize and protest peacefully for political or social change.

Freedom of speech and of the press is a cornerstone of any democracy.
Yes.. democracy. Freedom & Rights - cornerstones of any democracy. Lots of "democracy" usage, apolitically. Referenced from:

Rights and Freedoms - US Department of State.

Good going on your typical Foxonian derail of the topic.. almost textbook. Is it any wonder Fox employs attorneys for "news" casters..?
