Who was Nikola Tesla? Impostor or Intellect?

If you've never heard the name Tesla before, it isn't surprising. Do a search on Google, because I'm not going to copy and paste all of it!

For those of us who do know him, who do you think he was? There's no doubt that Tesla was a genius far ahead of his time; even the great Edison supposedly stated Tesla was a far superiour intellect than him-- of course he was also on his death bed, so he likely wasn't being modest.

Myself and only two others at my high-school have ever HEARD of Tesla, one being my best friend (he's my friend for a reason, hah) and the other being the physic's teacher who complemented my AWESOME Tesla shirt, saying the man has never gotten proper credit. Also, I am bragging about my Tesla t-shirt; and no not the awful band.

Even though few know his name, his influence is still strong today; many using, um lets see... ELECTRICTY everyday?! Unless your on a laptop and in a park or something then praise Edison. Inventing the Tesla Coil which is still used in radio technoledges and great special effects today, AC (alternating current elecricty) and heres stuff from the wiki because my fingers can't handle it:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Various devices that use rotating magnetic fields (1882)
The Induction motor, rotary transformers, and "high" frequency alternators
The Tesla coil, his magnifying transmitter, and other means for increasing the intensity of electrical oscillations (including condenser discharge transformations and the Tesla oscillators)
Alternating current long-distance electrical transmission system (1888) and other methods and devices for power transmission
Systems for wireless communication (prior art for the invention of radio) and radio frequency oscillators
Robotics and the "AND" logic gate
Electrotherapy Tesla currents
Wireless transfer of electricity and the Tesla effect
Tesla impedance phenonomena
Tesla electro-static field
Tesla principle
Bifilar coil
Telegeodynamics
Tesla insulation
Tesla impulses
Tesla frequencies
Tesla discharge
Forms of commutators and methods of regulating third brushes
Tesla turbines (eg., bladeless turbines) for water, steam and gas and the Tesla pumps
Tesla igniter
Tesla compressor
X-rays Tubes using the bremsstrahlung process
Devices for ionized gases and "Hot Saint Elmo's Fire".
Devices for high field emission
Devices for charged particle beams
Phantom streaming devices
Arc light systems
Methods for providing extremely low level of resistance to the passage of electrical current (predecessor to superconductivity)
Voltage multiplication circuitry
Devices for high voltage discharges
Devices for lightning protection
VTOL aircraft
Dynamic theory of gravity
Concepts for electric vehicles
Polyphase systems
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you can see, he wasn't afriad to put his name on anything. This is were the story becomes jumbled... Tesla was also known as a very eccentric man, yet also a hermit. Some of his strange claims were the reported "death beam" or ironic "peace ray" at his lab, called the Wardenclyffe Tower in New York. Just look some stuff up, because theres alot of stuff out there.

Also, DO NOT post anything about UFO's, time travel or secret Nazi places in Brazil. Thats all bullshit; sorry for the languge, but many people pin new age occultism crap and weird hippy ufo stuff with Tesla. I won't deny he may have built something simulair to what we call "ufos", but don't soil his name with the occult. Oh, and no HAARP stuff either; I've actually BEEN to the fucking place in Alaska. Believe me; it IS VERY CREEPY to see cold desolate land, with mechanical trees being the only shade (anteenas) but why the hell would they allow public tours at the base of a "super weapon"? Not very secret...
.... and YES, I've actually been there. It was cold, but also free since our Uncle was in the Air Force etc. Theres alot of weird humming and the frequent crackle of electricty, but I haven't pulled a Sirhan Sirhan...yet

I was promised funny stories and candy!

there doesnt seem to be much support for the whole "superweapon" of HAARP... oops.. wasnt supposed to discuss that was i =)

seems to be a bit of both to me ..... he made many great advances in science ... but still many of his claims remain unproven

When I look at you, I doubt I could eat the amount I wanna vomit

He made that awesome duplicating electro-cannon in The Prestige, I thought that was cool beans.

But in all seriousness, any man who can produce and invent is a man worthy of my respect.

Of course I know about Tesla. Who hasn't played Command & Conquer: Red Alert and thought that the Tesla Coil frying the opposition was a beautiful thing.

Sorry for the derailment, but that is where I first learned of Tesla, and I suspect most of my own generation.

Here in Buffalo, NY, Tesla is part of our local history:

During the period from 1887 through 1890, Tesla created and patented the foundation of modern polyphase AC generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization systems. His AC induction motor design eliminated the brushes and commutator common to all previously existing electric motors. His AC induction motor used the principle of electromagnetic induction that had already been embodied in the electrical transformer with the concept of a rotating magnetic field. Tesla originated the idea of using alternating currents, generated in multiple phases (called a “poly-phase system”), to produce rotating magnetic fields within the motor's stator windings. Tesla and Westinghouse demonstrated the practicality of AC power by providing all the lighting for the beautiful 1893 Colombian Exposition at the World's Fair. Three years later, they harnessed the mighty Niagara Falls to provide polyphase power to Buffalo, NY, finally proving once and for all the superiority of AC over DC for practical long distance electrical power distribution.
