US says cloned animals safe for sale as food

US rules cloned animals safe for sale as food | Science | guardian.co.uk

Quote:
US farmers have been given the go ahead to produce cloned meat for the human food chain.

In a 968-page report billed as a "final risk assessment" of the technology, the US Food and Drug Administration has concluded that healthy cloned animals and products from them such as milk are safe for consumers.

Although the announcement effectively removes the final regulatory barrier to selling cloned meat in the US it is likely to be years before cloned animals or meat from the progeny of clones is sold in stores.

The skills for redevelopment of species can now be honed correctly

is this really cost effective ?

i thought cloning was expensive ..... seems it would be easier to breed animals the old fashioned way

What I want to know is if anyone from the FDA actually ate cloned meat and drank cloned milk.

hmm.. I hope they still have regulations on cloning.
I studied cloning at school.. it lowers the genetic diversity of a species, which means when a new disease, or a change in climate comes then the entire species is more likely to be destroyed.
