It was definitely the Oil companies. They purchased the patent to allow the electric car to go 300 miles between discharge, which is more than enough for every commuter. Think about it, that would be 9,000 miles per month, not even the best outside salesman does that much driving. However, even the 100 mile limit would have been enough.

Think about it. Only 1.6% of our power comes from oil. If the electric car took off, like it would have. Then oil would not be used in our cars and the oil companies would go bankrupt, along with Russia, Venezuela and the Middle East. Big business made this happen.

Also this was back in 1990, imagine what the electric car could have looked like to? We would probably have 500-1000 miles per reload with technological advancements. 0 emissions (no global warming talks). OPEC wouldn't haveus by the balls. Only a few cents per charge-up.

I am depressed now.

Oil companies Fearful of losing business to a competing technology, they supported efforts to kill the ZEV mandate. They also bought patents to prevent modern NiMH batteries from being used in US electric cars.

It realy sucks that world as we know it could be destroyed because of some selfish business men.

Just like you can't lump all races into one category, you can't lump all big business into one category. Big business is responsible for all the great innovations that make our lives better. However, there is all a few that ruin it for the bunch.

But I have to agree in this case I am pissed! Every innovation starts slow, but they improve over time. See the computer as a perfect example. These cars could have been perfected by now. These cars could have saved America from the huge burden of relying on foreign oil and from the threat of global warming. They hurt America 100 fold for their own greed. This is treason to me.
