| mostly harmless Location: USA Posts: 1,284 | So let's say I'm an onstar engineer who has the ability to listen to any conversation in any car and rig the system to cover my tracks. The company trusts me to just keep the system running, but let's assume I want more and either am not prone to guilt or my targets "deserve" whatever they get. What could I listen to? - Conversations in limos between investors and brokers. Then I can trade with insider info, as long as I switch investors enough to prevent a pattern from being detected. - Conversations in my family and friend's cars. Then I can get all the dirt and use it as leverage, as long as I am subtle. - Trade secrets, to make a few bucks doing some corporate espionage. All of the above can be said for people with trust and access to mobile phones too. I don't have any problem with onstar or mobile phones as long as the users choose them. The problem is when there is no choice to turn them off. |

I am a conspiracy theorist because I don't like microphones I can't monitor when they are on or off, in my private property? Ok, I guess that I am a conspiracy theorist then. ![]() Quote:
I am not anti-On Star. I am pro privacy, so I wouldn't support the idea with a return from my money. Quote:

![]() As far as why, because I am not a fan of computer controlled cars, or fly by wire technology, unless I built it with my own hands. Mechanical problems can be fixed through fabrication using local material, whereas, electronics problems, wherever you are, usually leave you high and dry. (hope you don't have an import if that happens, on a trip, and the nearest town is population 15.) I respect new stuff, and I like computers. I just don't like allowing my life to depend on computers, and avoid it. Well, if our governments will take advantage of us via cell phone or onstar, shall we start a revolution? C'mon, you kick my prime minister in the balls and I'll punch your president in the face! Quote:
