So my client just had surgery on his leg. He went o Germany and was hooked up to a device that extracted stemcells from his own blood. They were then injected back into him, and his leg was better within days. Why don't we have medicine or science like this in America? We used to be really good about this stuff.

Perhaps because doing research into stemcells requires more cells than just tapping peoples legs could provide?

Just throwing out a guess. Not seeing much online about what you can gather from a fetus vs anything else.

Adult stem cells are not as "flexible" as embryonic stem cells. Obviously, no one knows exactly why at the current time. But yes, it is possible to extract stem cells from adults but they cannot do as much as embryonic ones. Source

Wait...what if they need heart stem cells? The stem cells for making blood are easy to get out nonlethally, but acquiring the materials for other tissues might be more of a challenge.

Exactly the reason why we need to study embryonic stem cells so that we can find out why they're so versatile.

that makes me wonder why we don't spend money we use trying to find "weapons on mass destruction" in random countries rather than spend money developing the technology and researching the subject.
