Research using hybrid embryos is likely to be given the go-ahead this week after warnings it would be a major blow to British science if the Government watchdog refused to allow it. Researcher aim to create stem cells which can be manipulated in the laboratory to mimic human cells The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) will decide on Wednesday whether to permit scientists to create human-animal hybrid embryos to extract stem cells for research.

Of course, medical research has been creepy and disgusting (not to mention sinful) for fundamental christians for hundreds of years. If one contracts a disease and dies, it is god's will. Umm, I haven't presented an opinion I have to back up, I asked a question, (what the hell) If you could provide me with a reason for the research I might reconsider.

Ah yes, I remember hearing a while ago that there was an application being made for permission to conduct this research. I'm glad science seems to be winning over emotion and ignorance here.

As for the purpose of the research, try reading the full article:

The aim is to create stem cells which can be manipulated in the laboratory to mimic human cells with genetic neurological diseases so potential therapies can be developed. The only other alternative, Dr Minger said, is to encourage thousands of women to donate their eggs for research. "Ruling against this research would be a real blow for science, not just stem cell research," he said. "We thought that what we were doing was quite pragmatic. It is more justified than trying to encourage thousands of young women to come forward to undergo a fairly invasive procedure for research. In my opinion that is not realistic and not justified."

It's not messing around with life for the sake of it; it's conducting medical research in order to save lives.

Bacon guy, could also be used to erradicate deformaties in the womb, and aid cures in many othe circumstnces, thus enhancing and altering mankind.

It should enable the testing and changing of the genetic code in humans
