That hand shaking thing kids do

Everyone knows the movement kids do when they feel like they are in trouble, where they shake their hands vigoriously for a couple of seconds. I think it is to dispell nervousness so that they can better handle the upcoming situation. Our nervous system is like a piece of equipment that needs maintenance. Thoughts?

My kid used to shake like he had a medical condition at times. Usually Christmas day when some toy he REALLY wanted was there for him or similar situation.

And he was 5 years-old.

Just curious. Since you're the "BionicArmofDeth", what happens to that arm when YOU get excited?

Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots.

I thought the gesture, was derived from one used by parents to scold, suggesting a spanking.

It might be mimicking parents. But Ive noticed that certain people have an accumulation of bad body movements. Bad back posture, bad arm movements and bad walking patterns... it all adds up after a while. It is more subtle in those that have it less, but in some people it is really noticeable. It is especially noticeable in those that are always scared or nervous, or handicapped. I've also seen a picture of Vietnam(?) when there was a war. A bomb or something had dropped and there was a naked child running towards the photographer, and the child was doing the shaking hands thing, so maybe it isnt mimicking the parents.

I know what you're talking about, but I've never seen it in my children, and I can't venture a guess without some thought.

What does that mean? Please define each connotation of "bad".

What is? Say something meaningful.

What is especially noticeable? It would be really nice if you told us what you were talking about.

Maybe it was shear panic in a child who didn't understand what was happening.

I presume that you have never experienced "a bomb or something" dropping near you. I suspect that you would have been screaming, shaking your hands, and running down the road naked rather than taking measures to protect yourself. Perhaps you were never trained as a combat soldier.

No. Since your request is impossible, since no one understands what he is talking about, no one can explain.

Peace.

I understand.

When a kid senses that they are in trouble, some of them go into a quick little panic mode where they look around, shake their hands a little (sorta like you would if they were wet and you were shaking them dry) and generally seem like they are getting read for a fight-or-flight reflex.

I think its were we get the expression "agitated" to describe an attitude.

Oh. In that case, its just a sign of nervousness like described in the OP. I've never seen a kid do it though.

Everyone knows? Your post is the first I've ever heard of this hand shaking thing. Do you have any objective documentation of this phenomenon?
