Timetable for Moon colony announced

Moon Colony

"NASA plans to permanently occupy an outpost at one of the Moon's poles, officials announced on Monday. The first four astronauts will land for a short visit in 2020, but it will take until at least 2024 to prepare for "a fully functional presence with rotating crews",

""The US will build the transportation infrastructure," said Dale. NASA will also provide initial capabilities for communications, navigation, and operation around the base. But the US is seeking help from other countries and private corporations in other areas, including the lunar habitation modules, power, logistics and robotics."

-This should be an interesting stroy to follow over the next few years. This would be a great feat of human of human engineering if succesful.

How much force(punching power) would it take alter the moon's orbit? Could a bunch of equipment or explosion or something alter the course very easily?

Otherwise I don't see why we shouldn't. Space travel is helpful to our mindset and economy and survival even.

In a word, no.

I'd rather live underwater.

I'd like to thank Charlie Hodge, bringing me scarves and water.

Exotic location, designer Martha Stewart-Raytheon abodes, heat-searing, death-potentiating journey to/fro the camp-site. Not a lot that you can't do here on Earth, for about 20 billion dollars less.

That's what I'm saying. I'm all for space programs but...

That event - along with exploring and exploiting waters - is the first step to reduce and/or minimize the Middle-East region interests.
(There are plenty of oil-reach fields in waters around the globe. More than the whole Middle-East can combine together. Technology along with exploration and eploitation is the aspect, only. As of today, it is way too expensive.
Nevertheless, U.S. is working on that issue hard.)

Tell your grand-grand children to be ready for global war, since all those Middle-East region states would have not much to offer to the rest of the world, except for :
- camels
- desert sand
- scorpios

Since the gap between technologically advanced states and the Middle-East region ones is getting wider, progressively, The Middle-East region states would have to offer (in return), instead :
- demands for survival, like bread, etc.
If not met, they would move out to get some.

All of a sudden faking it in Arizona sounds like a great idea.

It'd be cheaper to bring it there than to bring several 100+ ton space ships to the moon.

Just a thought.

What a waste of money building a moon base...the time-table probably won't be accurate either. They're just making postulates NASA is.

This isn't really a "colony" as much as an observation post. The purpose is not for human colonization, but for similar purposes that the ISS exists, and, after all, the ISS isn't a colony, now is it?

It's just a science outpost. No one is colonizing the moon, at least not yet, and people will probably try to colonize Mars before then (after all, Mars is more hospitable then the Moon, even if just barely).

How? Unless they find water that they can use, Mars is shitty for humans too.
