NASA Saves Hubble

Astronauts to visit Hubble for service call - CNN.com
Quote:
The shuttle Discovery will pay the Hubble Space Telescope a final servicing call in 2008, NASA Administrator Michael Griffin announced Tuesday.

The new plan reverses a decision made by former NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe in the wake of the Columbia disaster that such a mission would be too risky to attempt…

n January 2004, O'Keefe canceled a scheduled Hubble servicing mission because the shuttle would not be going to the station, and a "safe haven" would not be an option.

With all that Hubble has contributed to our understanding of our surroundings, it would have been trajic not to have made this mission happen in my opinion.

Yes. Hubble got off to a rockily myopic start, but it's been literally a dream come true for formerly-earthbound astronomers.

Close a few Loopholes for the Comfy and the thing will be paid for 10 times over.
