| Open the cages! Posts: 1,774 | Time to Muse (pt 1): What will forum boards of the future be like? What do you think forum boards will be like 10 or 20 years in future? It is hard for me to imagine that with the rapid increase in technology we will still be doing what we do now here at Volconvo in the same was as in the future. I don`t think text based interaction will disappear because a lot of people like text. Except for menu controls and orders to the computer to execute functions, I don`t think I would give up the luxury of time to compose thoughts that writing and editing functions afford. Perhaps for those who are very outgoing, an entry into the computer with some kind of hologram effect would give everyone a virtual body in which to meat one another in a conference room for discussion of issues, or on stage at podiums in formal debate settings with lurkers being visible as a seated audience registering all their actions, sighs, moans, claps, etc...like today`s politicians experience. If that could be possible, just imagine how skillful one may become at debate with such realistic like conditions immitated. Furthermore, if two politicians agreed to enter into that halogram so that the audience would be unlimited, anyone around the world could experience important leaders' debates directly as if they were in front of them. So, if Volconvo admin could afford all gadgets in the future, what would this community look like 10 or 20 years on? Thoughts? And talking about things people like, 20 years from now, the current teens will now be the one's in charge, as innovators, inventers, and entrepeneurs as kids these days expect it all, therefore, I think this new generation, 20 years from now, will survive 100% on electronics. Like the holodeck in Star Trek your avatar can sit at a kind or "round table" and discuss things pretty much the same way we do here, except with fistfights. Every member's screen will show the whole virtual "room" and can see the expressions on the reproduction of others real faces, a feature that will almost universally be turned off within a month of its introduction. Virtual reality will become so sophisticated you'll never need to interact with anyone in person again. You can sell your legs on eBay. Either that or the Internet will become passe and be used for background information exchange and control and people will have moved on to the newest fad. The telephone will be hard-wired into our brains so people will talk more than ever and women in supermarkets will NEVER shut the hell up! Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots. |
