But now he's testing a pioneering new prosthetic arm that moves in response to his thoughts." Man's bionic arm moves by thought control - More Health News - MSNBC.com This is truly revolutionary. You can think the words "flex bicep" but no motor signal happens. Only when you "try" to flex your bicep does the part of the brain connected to the nerves to the arm fire a signal. Of course, this signal is not connected to anything anymore. They took the severed nerves and attached them to his pecs, then sensors for contractions to control the prosthetic. So he can think "pinch her butt" in words or imagine pinching her butt in visual imagery and nothing happens. The only way it will pinch her butt is by "doing" it. |

| modern ape Posts: 64 | There is also a girl with the same type of nerve attached arm, she was on CNN today. Her left arm was lost in a motorcycle accident. She said that there were a few glitches with the arm and she accidentally hit herself in the face with it. Of course, she was very excited to have it even though it needs some work. The guy who made the arm wants to use the same principal for an artificial leg next. |

Being able to use prostetics is a really awesome acheivment in science! I just hope that they can really test out this stuff-and make an even better one then there is now! War is Peace Freedom is Slavery Ignorance is strength Harness the power of Ingsoc, then you can capture someone killed the year before |
