You are a kid, and of course it's depreciating. You'll get over it if you're lucky...it's a condition you outgrow.Quote by: dthmstr254
So your writing here for no pay because you want to relates to someone being paid to write about a topic they either research or already are familiar with, how? People write about things they don't always agree with. I could write a book about theism. Do I have to be one to write about it? Of course not. And if it earned me money, is that going to convince me that religion is valid? Nope.
Understand, I'm not dumping on the authors you mentioned. I'm sure they're fine writers. I have no reason to think otherwise, because I have never heard of them before. I was challenging your depiction of them as "well-known".

No I did not. You have completely and totally misquoted and conjured up false and untrue quotes that I have not said.
And I must ask.. why?

The quirky little catch phrases like this drive me nuts...I really don't see the relevance ...it's just, to me, like dancing in circles, it doesn't answer the question...Quote by: PatrickHenry

I don't think you are all arguing if there is or is not a God, but rather if the Christian understanding of a God exist or not. I perfer a more eastern understanding of God, perhaps more Hindu in nature, or more Fritjof Capra, but Teilhard is a nice bridge between religion and science
Teilhard, was a catholic preist forbidden to publish because the church said his work was full of flaws. The scientific community also agreed his work is full of flaws, so unfortunately his thoughts have not been given the attention they deserve. . To the question of God-
The solution that he came upon is that evolution is God's plan. Why reject this idea? Accepting evolution doesn't mean religion is all wrong, it just means having a better understanding of how God works. I think religion is shooting itself in the foot by rejecting science.Teilhard put the issue on a personal, even confessional plane:
"If, as the result of some interior revolution, I were to lose in succession my faith in Christ, my faith in a personal God, and my faith in spirit, I feel that I should continue to believe invincibly in the world. The world (its value, its infallibility and its goodness)- that, when all is said and done, is the first, the last, and the only thing in which I believe. It is by this faith that I live. And it is to this faith, I feel, that at the moment of death, rising above all doubts, I shall surrender myself.(3)"
We must now ask what led Teilhard to believe so deeply in the world, or , putting it another way and reflecting the deep skepticism of our own era, what in the world is worthy of belief in the first place? For the vast majority of us, the material world provides the raw material for scientific research, not mystical illumination. Yet here is a professional scientist working at the frontiers of research, part of an international team of geologists, paleontologists, and anthropologists, and writing from an outpost of science in northern China, who boldly asserts:
"If we Christians wish to retain in Christ the very qualities on which his power and our worship are based, we have no better way - no other way, even - of doing so than fully to accept the most modern concepts of evolution. . . . Surely the solution for which modern mankind is seeking must essentially be exactly the solution which I have come upon.(4)"

I speak controversy so we have something to talk about. Don't take me too seriously.
People believe in god because they were taught to when they were young.
Everyone was an atheist, till you grew up to the point where you could learn about religion.

Can someone please explain to me why dthmstr insists on lying?Quote by: Lullaby Chainer
I tried to talk to him about it and he elaboratley attacks me saying I am bipolar or scitzo and need help??

Well, I did a search on those exact phrases. You are correct, the only place those phrases appear in the search are in dthmstr's posts.Quote by: Lullaby Chainer
I guess if he wished to show us differently he could provide direct links to the posts in question.
I can't explain his attitudes or behaviors, however.

Yeah, I know. It's really quite frusturating. :eek:Quote by: Keith Hamburger
I wish dth could provide an explanation.
Does he do this often?
I don't mean to make a big deal about it or anything, I just find it appaling.

a phase I like to use is "I think...therefore, I don't know" the truth is none of us will ever know for sure till we die, so unless your a rotten person I wouldn't worry about it too much.
