Why do athiests and theists bring these arguments about the existence of god up? Each week we all see more and more threads about the existence of god, true or not true. There is evidence for evolution, but no evidence for why. There are stories of god, but no evidence of why.

I think this sub forum should be closed until we can agree more on things, and that is not going to come about by demanding evidence from each other, then joining cliques to pat each other on the back for saying the same things over and over again.

At least admin should stop new threads being made - we have plenty of those. Every now and then, somebody or other, hell bent on saying something clever to get grabbed by the others that support thier view and congradulated, starts another thread. We must all agree that we have enough of these threads? Heck I know some people come on here just to debate religion, and run around in circles.

Please, for the love of little kittens, do not make more of these topics!

I feel that, like politics, this is an issue that encourages aggression, naturally enough, since the question tends to involve everyone without being capable of producing arguments that convince people starting from very different assumptions.

Then avoid this forum. Come on, you're causing your own problems. You don't want to look at the threads, you refuse to credibly debate anything and now you just whine about it.

The debate over the existence of gods has gone on for thousands of years, frequently among highly educated theologians and philosophers. Not every facit of the issue is sophomoric. The fact that religious belief is so common to humans makes it a topic fascinating to many on both sides of the debate. Even those of us unconvinced that gods exist wonder what it is that makes humans worship gods, why we think we need them and what effect religious belief has on our society and humanity at large. It's an issue with a million sub-topics and each of those, within certain contexts, is worthy of debate.

As to the moderation brought up in the OP: it is not the policy of the admins and mods to censor what topics are introduced for debate providing they are within the limits set by the rules and law. This forum exists because of member involvement and it's up to the members, not the staff, to suggest topics that are of interest to them.

I find religion to be one of the more interesting aspects of the human condition. Religion is a lot like a direct reflection of the human spirit--capable of astonishing brutality yet also having great beauty.
