A person entering a contract of servitude knows ahead of time that there is the possibility of being beat in the course of their service. They can choose not to enter the contract as it stands.

How is this different than a boxer?
Slaves in the Bible have no choice but to be slaves regardless of whether they no in advance or not. This is quite different from a boxer who can opt out of the boxing match if he chooses. A Biblical slave will be beaten however.

BTW using the term indentured servitude doesn't make Biblical slavery sound any better.

Well, I'd love to stay and play all day but I have work to finish and a weekend to start.

Thanks for the lively debate, sandwiched among all the fluff

Thanks for wasting everyone's time with your nonsense. Your disease has to be addressed however. The type of bullshit you spew is dangerous if it circulates without a response so I was forced to sit here and waste my time responding to your primitive beliefs.

And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen.. "Christianity".

    Take a bow, Questatement.

As the pattern gets more intricate and subtle, being swept along is no longer enough.

Then tell me, suppose a man buys a slave woman to make her his wife and lavishes the best form of love on her that a man is capable of.

Where do you find fault there?
Suppose a woman buys you as a slave to make you her husband and lavishes the best form of love on you that a woman is capable of?

Do you have a problem with that, or is that something you could get into?

    I would enjoy that. JK

I don't think he understands that throughout history the delusion that men had that women were their property has led to mistreatment of women and obstructions in their fundamental rights as humans. This type of thinking is a disease.

The very definition of slave is someone who has no rights outside of what his master wills. Just because it may have been possible for a few slaves to be content, does not mean non content slaves should have sucked it up and appreciated that at least some of them were content. The point is you simply cannot give one man full say over another without violating the basic codes of human dignity.

But dang, a lot Christians don't accept the concept of human dignity. What a shame.

If there is a contract that upholds basic human rights then it is not slavery. Come on! Give me something to go on here.

Not surprisingly, you missed the whole point. Have you actually read the bible? God doesn't condone slavery. He knows people will act on their will to be evil and enslave so he reminds them they will answer for it one day.

Since when is defining terms off topic?

Also, I have already provided my arguments for when slavery is justified... when it benefits all parties involved.
Right, when it's better to sell yourself into slavery than starve to death. Again, that's hardly a glowing endorsement of slavery. Also, is that the kind of slavery the bible endorses? I don't recall any part that explains that conquering soldiers should only make slaves of conquered people when it's mutually beneficial. Did I miss that part?

How do you feel about slavery today? Is it still OK as long as it's mutually beneficial? Do you own a slave? Would you if you could?

God not only condones slavery he directs it! He also directs every other horrid act you can think of. God is the model for every psychopath in history. How you can't see this is beyond belief Finder. I suppose you need, so desperately, to believe that your particular god is good that your reasoning faculties are defective in this area. I'm sure that you're probably quite reasonable in every other aspect of life.

Your quote just made me realize why god would endorse slavery. Your god considers all of us to be his slaves so why wouldn't he expect all of us to have slaves too. You and Q apparently enjoy being slaves. I'm happy for you.

You are cherry picking which is utmost vital for you to do in order for you to keep your faith and yes I have read the Bible numerous times.
