![]() Volcanic Erupter Location: España Posts: 2,610 | General greg newbold Until now, I have resisted speaking out in public. I've been silent long enough I am driven to action now by the missteps and misjudgments of the White House and the Pentagon, and by my many painful visits to our military hospitals. In those places, I have been both inspired and shaken by the broken bodies but unbroken spirits of soldiers, Marines and corpsmen returning from this war. The cost of flawed leadership continues to be paid in blood. The willingness of our forces to shoulder such a load should make it a sacred obligation for civilian and military leaders to get our defense policy right. They must be absolutely sure that the commitment is for a cause as honorable as the sacrifice. With the encouragement of some still in positions of military leadership, I offer a challenge to those still in uniform: a leader's responsibility is to give voice to those who can't--or don't have the opportunity to--speak. Enlisted members of the armed forces swear their oath to those appointed over them; an officer swears an oath not to a person but to the Constitution. The distinction is important. It is time to send a signal to our nation, our forces and the world that we are uncompromising on our security but are prepared to rethink how we achieve it. It is time for senior military leaders to discard caution in expressing their views and ensure that the President hears them clearly. And that we won't be fooled again. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/ar...1629-1,00.html theres more at the link |

| READ...MY...HANDS!!! Location: Chatanooga TN at tennessee temple university Posts: 2,770 | quote from US soldier in Iraq this soldier has VOLUNTEERED TWICE OVER TO RETURN to Iraq. he said that when the news reached him that the polls had come to the states from the question of whether they wanted to stay in Iraq, he was "apalled" by the media's "twisting" of the polls. his unit is all there and doesn't want to come back yet. on live radio, they said that they wanted America to know the truth of what our troops wanted, and it wasn't what our media told us. this is what I picked up off of a live interview held over the phone with a soldier in Iraq on 107.9 Duke FM Chattanooga, TN. this soldier's entire unit had volunteered unanimously to make their third trip to Iraq, and said they would make a fourth on the air shortly before reception cut out. this soldier had the mike, that is what he said. I thank him over this idiot who eats what the press feeds him. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] HOUSE: There's a bullet in his head. CAMERON: He was shot? HOUSE: No … somebody threw it at him. |

Once they've left the service, however, it's apparent that Iraqi veterans have figured out the truth. Witness the fact that Iraqi veterans now running for Congress are running as Democrats, by around 5 to 1. --"Another similarity is this: Ashe, Duck, Dunn, Murphy, Lentz, and the others are, like Hackett, Democrats. In total, 10 Democratic vets are running, or considering a run, for Congress. (A few more may declare in the coming weeks.) The Republicans, by contrast, can only commit to two."-- . Besides, active duty soldiers shouldn't be polled anyway. In fact, they don't belong on forums like this one either. It's a lucky thing I don't run this forum because I'd have a banner saying soldiers are not allowed to join and a plea asking them to go elsewhere. Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots. | |
