Greenpeace petition against Whale Killing

25,000 whales have been killed since an international moratorium on commercial whaling was passed in 1986.
Heroic members of the Greenpeace party still risk their lives by going to sea and opposing the actions of whaling ships such as the Nisshin Maru.
Nissui is the parent company of Gortons, and it continues to slaughter whales. Please consider going to greenpeaceusa.org and signing their online petition against the killing of whales and also not purchasing Gorton's frozen-food products.
Thanks for your attention and any actions which you take in behalf of a creature that cannot defend itself from man's depredations.
The naturalist, Joseph Wood Krutch, has written: ".... unless we share this terrestrial globe with creatures other than ourselves, we shall not be able to live on it for long."

Today, Greenpeace has announced that Gortons and its parent company Nissui has agreed to get out of the whaling business.
That is not necessarily the end of problems for the whale; among other things, the use of sonar by the U.S. Navy causes death and beachings for the whale.
Still, public opposition has had some impact on Gortons, and this is a great step forward.
The American consumer can also put pressure on other companies to change; we can not really act responsibly without gathering information first; we should not feel that just because some product is on the shelves of a given supermarket that it is wise to purchase it.
Corporations have been structured without regard to ethical operation; when the cost of doing harm is less than the cost of beneficial operations toward the environment, then harm will be done.
Another Company that should be a target for public pressure is Kimberly-Clarke which is using "old-growth" forests in the production of paper products.
