But they have almost ALL done the same type of thing he is convicted of, but more artfully and without bombast. Some quotes from Traficant: "Am I different? Yeah. Deep down, you know you want to wear wider bottoms; you're just not secure enough. . . . Do I do my hair with a Weed Whacker? I admit." "I want you to disregard all the opposing counsel has said. I think they're delusionary. I think they've had something funny for lunch in their meal, I think they should be handcuffed, chained to a fence and flogged, and all of their hearsay evidence should be thrown the hell out. And if they lie again, I'm going to go over there and kick them in the crotch. Thank you very much." "Madam Speaker, an investigation revealed that 16,000 IRS employees illegally used their computers. The report states IRS agents spent 50 % of their time at work on personal business. If that is not enough to service your revenue, IRS agents illegally used their computers for shopping, stock trading, gambling and pornography. Unbelievable. Think about it. While 60 % of taxpayer calls to the IRS go unanswered, the IRS agents were watching Marilyn Chambers do the Rotary International. Beam me up here. It is time to pass a flat 15 % sales tax and abolish this gambling, porno-watching IRS completely. I yield back the internal rectal service of the United States of America." "I apologize. As a fashion leader, it is tough for me at times to comport with some rules." "Beam me up." "Currency is not money, but a money substitute. Redeemable currency must promise to pay a dollar equivalent in gold or silver money. Federal Reserve Notes (FRNs) make no such promises, and are not "money". A Federal Reserve Note is a debt obligation of the federal United States government, not "money"" What I love about Traficant: His disdain for the IRS, NAFTA and the CIA, and his eccentric rhetoric. I say: Let him out... http://www.traficant.com/ "Arms in the hands of the citizens may be used at individual discretion for the defense of the country, the overthrow of tyranny or private self-defense." -- John Adams |

Absolutely true. He was also eccentric, and his Tourettes Syndrome made it hard to step up to bat for the guy. Fundamentally, I liked the guy, and agree with Pat he shouln't be held further, but he was part of the two headed beast I loathe so much. | |
