How many tons of Yellow Cake were found in Iraq?

Since there seems to be some confusion on this, I'll put to a vote, don't cheat and google the answer, I will give it in a day or two.

Are you trying to imply that all or any part of Iraq's yyellowcake came from Niger? Or are you asking about the yellowcake that Iraq has had for many years, and that was common knowledge to the U.S.??

I am talking about the Yellowcake Iraq had when we invaded the country. Do you even know how much they had? It was NOT common knowledge becuase, remember, Iraq had "no nuclear program" so why should they even have any.

Someon thinks the answer was 500tons, and somone voted neglible. Interesting.

Although you equate having some yellowcake with having a "nuclear program", I don't think many others would agree. Owning a Rambler station wagon won't get you into the Indy 500.

And the U. S. was well aware of the yellowcake that Iraq had before the war started.

Interesting poll results so far. Even though the 500 tons answer seems like a lot since yellowcake is such a low grade material it would not produce that many bombs. It is my understanding that it takes 50-100 tons for just one small bomb.

It is my understanding that the IAEA had complete knowledge of Iraq's uranium stocks, including a full inventory, and so there was in fact none found "after the invasion."

The answer is 500 tons, and as far as I know the IAEA clamied that Iraq had only a small amount.

Not only that, they were pissed at the US for moving the stockpiles out of the country. But hey, it seems atleast 4 voters are MSM readers/watchers.

Source please, Vic? Cause I'm looking at the Iraq Survey Group report , and it says:

Known Iraqi uranium holdings have been accounted for by the Coalition and the IAEA.

Which consisted of nearly 500 tons of Yellowcake uranium. There is no mention of any "new" finds following the invasion. I think you've read/watched a little too much Wingnut Media there buddy.

Shit, V. You can be relied upon to screw up the facts, make inaccurate claims and not providing a source for the garbage. If you are going to be that sloppy why do you even bother?

Missing Iraq uranium 'secured'
Quote:
About 1.8 metric tons of "yellow cake" and 500 tons of unrefined uranium went missing as the Iraqis left Tuwaitha unattended during the war.
Of course as you provide no sources it is impossible to tell what you are talking about. That is assuming you know what you are talking about.

Sarcy comments and general satire aside, I think we should keep this thread on track. Give Mr Vicc a chance to redeem himself if that is entirely possible.

Site C is a relatively small site as compared to the rest of the reservation, but the amount of material stored there is not insignificant. In addition to the nearly two tons of low-enriched uranium secured by the US, Site C was home to an additional 500 tons of yellowcake uranium,* This is a conservative estimate as initially reported by Coalition personnel from the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). Ironically, this initial figure is backed up by, of all organizations, Greenpeace.

Yellowcake is uranium ore that has been milled to produce a pure form of the substance known as Uranium Oxide. Further processes, such as conversion and enrichment, are required to make the yellowcake suitable for use as nuclear fuel in a reactor or for use in a nuclear weapon. Interestingly, a quantity of depleted uranium was also found at Tuwaitha. This implies that some enrichment processes occurred on-site, as depleted uranium is the natural byproduct of the enrichment process.

In addition to the yellowcake, approximately 300 tons of radioisotopes for industrial and medical uses were stored at primarily Site B. These materials, numbering over 1000 radioactive items retrieved from the site, included Cesium-137 and Cobalt-60. Both are extremely radioactive substances that are ideal for use in Radiological Dispersal Devices (RDD), or “dirty bombs.

i guess the lesson of this story is that assumptions (even based on broad concensus) are no substitute for facts.. kind of like allegations about wmd's and active weapons programs that bush spoonfed us and the world.. equally amazing that this frontpagemag source (dated in 2004) had such a pissant grasp of the facts - since the bbc article was dated in 2003.. and people wonder why we don't buy these stories unless we can see them in a reputable source..

Of course, it could also have come from recycled U.S. munitions salvaged from other areas of Iraq.

From Mr. V's link:

"All three facilities have never been rebuilt. All spent fuel or fresh fuel was sent back to the country of origin after Gulf War I."
