The story does say a lot about the complete failure of the US to provide the most rudimentary security, even in Baghdad, almost three years into the occupation. The most powerful nation in the world cannot even secure the seven mile highway to the airport or for that matter, protect a woman journalist. Remember, Volconvo isn't slanted left/anti-chritian/anti-Bush. This lady is toast, figure tonight we'll see the video on the web... damn it. Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route? |

The absurdity of the title highlights the absurdity of that position. Sure. It's the U.S. fault, not the fault of the terrorists who took her, that she was captured. Abductions of one sort or another occur in every nation. Perhaps it is your hope that here in the U.S. we increase our police presence to such numbers that would make any such crime an impossibility? Say 1 officer for every 3 people? And not a word from you condemning the actions of the abductors? Interesting. This women has been abducted, and not a single thread mentioning it. Why is that? Is the idea of terrorist threatening to murder a women so passé as to avoid notice here? Maybe we’re waiting for the tape of her beheading before we take note. At least then we can blame the U.S. for her death.

| Navy Veteran Location: Texas Posts: 6,031 | apeman, come on, you know why she wasn't mentioned here. She is a reporter for a Christian website. The majority of posters here could care less about that. You know it, I know it, they know it. They just can't admit that's why they don't care. I really fear she'll be dead before the day is out, and if you hadn't posted this thread, I doubt few here would even know about it, or even know her name. Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route? |

And it will continue to be a page 5, lower left corner story. It is sickening the scant mention this atrocity receives. You can be damn sure that if this woman was being held by a Christian or a Jew the story would be front page, banner headline.

| Hot Lava Posts: 1,302 | The Abduction of Jill Carroll http://www.time.com/time/world/arti...1147652,00.html "When Jill Carroll, 28, a Baghdad-based freelancer for the Christian Science Monitor was kidnapped on Saturday, the tightly knit community of reporters in the Iraqi capital knew of the abduction within hours. But in an almost unprecedented move, media organizations in Baghdad— Arabic and English alike—kept a lid on the news in hopes that a media blackout would give negotiators and rescuers time to win her release." I was wondering why the story of Jill Caroll had not been brought up on volconvo earlier. Perhaps it was the hope of the borad that further silence would "would give negotiators and rescuers time to win her release." |

| Navy Veteran Location: Texas Posts: 6,031 | I heard about it on the radio the day it happened. 1200 WOAI San Antonio... It's out there, I think Apeman, it's because few here care about some reporter from the "Christian Science Monitor" they see the word Christian, and move on. Who cares about them around here? I hope they win her release, but I have a sinking fear we'll see her beheading video on certain websties very soon.... | Navy Veteran Location: Texas Posts: 6,031 | Yes, or if the reporter was from a big liberal paper/TV media it would be page one. But she works for a site that is religious, and the WRONG religion... Sigh. I pray for her, and her family. Let's hope this ends up in a good way. | The DON Posts: 256 | ok I will admit I am one that does not know the whole story, but did she go over ther? or did she live over there. I pray for her as well but I am not going over there unless I am in the military. That is asking for trouble being an american and christian over there right now at the time |

| The DON Posts: 256 | Well I agree with ya about the silence, and ya know When the guy from pennsylvania got beheaded and the posted a video on the net. Someone sent it to me in an email that said watch this its funny. the email account that sent it to me is inactive I do not know who did this. But I get alot of jokes and comedy stuff in my email. and I got that video and thats when I really turned into a staunch person. I wanted to go over to iraq myself and take these peoples lifes. No one should ever have to endure that, Thats why I know this is not a war over religion because there is no religion in the world that says cut somebodys head off. That was the worst thing I had ever ever seen. But the military won't take me. I tried numerous times. They won't take me. And I bet I could have done just as good a job as anyone else. |

| pregnant with truth Posts: 2,211 | the Christian Science Monitor isn't pro-Bush or Iraqi invasion in the slightest. Have any of you even been reading their news? You do bring up a valid point about how some are protected and others...not. Perhaps that CSM journalist wasn't being 'objective' enough for the 'terrorists'. I know I'm out on a limb, but, I would go as far to say that this is a doing of our own gov't. Think about it. It's got you riled up and thirsty for blood, ain't it? At the same time that dissenting Christain journalist learns a lesson along with the others in the supposedly tight-knit group of journalists in Iraq. |

| Navy Veteran Location: Texas Posts: 6,031 | The doing of the US Government? Why? To what point? Oh, to silence dissent... riiiiight. I never said it was a "pro-Bush" site. I was making a commentary about some of the posters on Volconvo. "Christian" is all they need to see to ignore something. Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route? |

Can find plenty of other hostage stories, though. I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. I only read them if they are on Google news. They are a major news outlet. I also think your stereotyping us at Volconvo as brushing off someone because of their being employed by the CSM is a bit daft.
