First, let me preface, I am not willing to judge Alito. That is for others to do. Besides, what does my opinion mean anyway
Americas opinion is the steering wheel of this nation. If the bus driver of this nation is drunk with power........ He will drive us off a cliff. In a "true" democracy the passengers decide who will drive the bus. Not the bus driver or the supreme court justice who believes in monarchy.
Exhibit A:
Quote:
Bush could seize absolute control of U.S. government
Capitol Hill Blue

The Department of Homeland Security established the “Northern Command for National Defense,” a wide-ranging program that includes FEMA, the Pentagon, the FBI and the National Security Agency. Executive orders already signed by Bush allow the Northern Command to send troops into American streets, seize control of radio and television stations and networks and impose martial law “in times of national emergency.

The authority to declare what is or is not a national emergency rests entirely with Bush who does not have to either consult or seek the approval of Congress for permission to assume absolute control over the government of the United States.
If you are in favor of an "overreaching" executive branch, then your opinion doesnt matter because they are going to just take whatever power is left unguarded. If you ARE opposed to fascist monarchy then I would advise speaking out.
Quote:
washington post

Patrick J. Leahy (Vt.), the committee's ranking Democrat, said: "It's important to know whether he would serve with judicial independence or as a surrogate for the president nominating him."
I agree with Leahy. For the Supreme Court to actually speak for the people, w` should have chosen a female representative from a minority. But why should he? He doesnt want a representative of the people, w NEEDS somebody to save his puckered ass from inmpeachment.
So, now we have a representative of ONE. And the interests of that ONE include the elite one or two % of the extreme elite. Unqualified cronyism is the name of the game, and we are the ones who will suffer.
Alito has shown in his record how authoritarian and fascist he is. And the Dems are party to it if they vote this c@cksucker in.

Bush Jr held an American citizen in military custody. Because Alito's hearing wasn't a month earlier, it forced Bush Jr to make a monkey out of the courts by removing the American citizen from military court and moving the citizen to civil court in order to avoid a Supreme Court hearing.

If Alito had been appointed, Bush Jr would have a guarantee that Alito will see the excutive as the king of America and above the law. Bush Jr would have been happy to let the citizen have the case heard in the Supreme Court.

Right Wingers are screwy in that they are really trying to morph the executive into a king and Alito is of the same mindset.

If Alito gets appointed be prepared to see rulings that will turn the citizens into toys for the king to play with.

I knew in advance that providing anything to you was a complete waste of time. You ask for sources then discount anything provided. You cite polls then say polls are stupid. Your problem not mine.

The NY Times editorial did provide a good summary of the broader objections to Alito's nomination. That is essentially what you asked for. You really don't want background details. If you did you could look them up yourself. And you won''t.
Broader objections based upon what? The editorialist opinion.

An opinion based on what? Who knows? No explanation was given to describe how this conclusion was attained. What was the pertinent case law was examined? What were the points of law in question? How did the opinions and findings of the court vary from any other findings in cases dealing with the same points of law?

The editorialist created “broader objections” based solely upon the outcome of the cases in question, apparently weighing them against his opinion as to how a case should be decided.

The article is meaningless in ascertaining factual data concerning the record of the judge, and relies solely upon the reader’s trust the editorialist’s opinion to be of nay benefit.

The same is true of other example of cases decided by the judge posted herein. Who among the presenters has the technical, legal knowledge to understand and adjudicate the points of law that were the center of the case? How many were reversed by another court? Did the reversals evidence any wrongdoing on the part of the Judge?

The Bar Association took a long look at the judge’s record and found no patterns of abuses. They state unequivocally that the judge has highest marks in integrity, professional competence and judicial temperament.

What do you know that they missed?

You wrote; ." Besides, what does it matter what NY Times has reported? We all know they are whores of this admin"

You wrote: "You DO KNOW that the New York Times will not release news if it is not favorable to the current administration?"

I don't know this. So enlighten me please.

Where do these statistics come from?

Definition: Whore: A prosititue. Just in case you required it.

Another question. Do you work for the NY Times? Do you know the policy of the NY Times that some of us here don't know according to your statement(s)?
RickSp already explained it just fine. The NYT didnt publish the "Domestic Wire Tapping" story that would make the president look crappier than the debates already had. NYT needs to look up the definition of JOURNALISM once in a while:
Quote:
journalism
3) The style of writing characteristic of material in newspapers and magazines, consisting of direct presentation of facts or occurrences with little attempt at analysis or interpretation.
I am aware of the definition of whore. So do these people:
Bush administration pays actors to pose as TV journalists

Armstrong Williams knows what a whore is:
Quote:
CS Monitor
Bush administration blurs media boundary

Controversy over a 'journalist' adds to the buzz about message control in capital.

See Definition 3.
Quote:
whore
3. A person considered as having compromised principles for personal gain.
So does Jeff Gannon, gw bush's personal whore.
Its always safe to call on this guy, he has "special clearance":

a "Media Whore", wouldnt you agree?

EDIT to add:
You dont have to answer, it may take us further off topic.

Is anybody else curious about Alitos $161,000.oo of Exxon Mobil Corp. stock?
Wouldnt he be obliged to recuse himself (before confirmation) from any suits involving Exxon Mobil Corp? When do they talk about that?

Can he sit on the impeachment hearings since Exxon owns the shrub?

Alito's motto: People nowadays just don't seem to know their place.

Does Alito really believe he knows this place where people are supposed to be?

I know where Alito should be. In the nut house.

It seems this administration is infiltrated with lunatics suffering from delusion of grandeur. The members of this administration truly believe in some weird baloney.
First of all, that wasn't something he actually said. Second of all, the meaning of this should be taken in context with the rest of it. When you truly read the rest of it, it's simply talking about social problems that have arisen by misinterpreting what equal rights means.

1) Who seriously believes women or handicapped people are entitled to equal representation in sports, other than whatever natural abilities they have in this area?

2) Do homosexuals have an entitlement to force other people to allow them to reproduce? Is that even physically possible?

Obviously these are warped interpretations of the original need for equal rights, which simply meant that individual rights should be respected equally irregardless of irrelevant traits such as sex, race or sexual orientation etc.

It seems obvious that piece was written with emotions behind it but consider that this was neither something Alito said nor is it even something that when read literally is even very offensive. People associate a lot more into it than is actually there.
