| Igneous Magma Location: New Zealand Posts: 309 | CNN's version and BBC's version. Most UK sources agree with the BBC (eg Observer, Independent). The major international services Reuters and AP) also agree with the BBC (and was used in MSNBC, NYT, and Washington Post) and Fox News, naturally enough, blames everything on the French (the Telegraph is similar, but I can't link to the article). CBS doesn't seem to have covered it. One would be forgiven for thinking there were in fact two quite different summits had taken place, attended by different people (with the same names). <edit> added the url for the bbc page </edit> |

| Igneous Magma Location: New York City Posts: 739 | So Blair's switch-hitting, Schroder's presenting his staunch resolve, and Chirac is proving to be a thorn in Bush's side. Blair's unpopular enough that it really won't matter that he finally found his head again, and it's good Chirac's keeping to his guns - somebody has to stand up to the Bush machine! (and I like the bear hug mention with Schroder =P) There was a nice Schroder piece in the op-ed of the NYTimes a couple days ago, outlining a big UN role in Iraqi peace amidst all the diplomaspeak. The sad part is that the only reason that Bush might seek a deal now is because his polls are finally taking a dive from the mess we made in the birthplace of civilization... . . . whenever any government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying its foundations on such principles and organizing its powers in such forms as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. |
