| Hot Lava Posts: 817 | Is al-Qaeda Entering US Via Mexican Border? A member of the US Congress has stated that 3 al-Qaeda members have been arrested crossing into the US via the US/Mexican border. Yet, big media is dead silent on this. Was she telling the truth? Why are no big media journalists following up on this story? Though, I heard a year or so ago about a Texas district attorney who said that he knew of arabs crossing into Texas from Mexico and that some of them were learning Spanish to blend in once in the US. Since a million or more do cross that border each year without being caught, and especially since the US gov't has no idea who is crossing, and doesn't seem much concerned about it, I'm shocked that nobody in big media is doing any reporting on it. ~ zynner | |

| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 9,589 | There are even easier ways to get into the US than hiking across the desert. The xenophobes are just using AlQaeda as an excuse to crack down on Mexicans. Just like Bush used AlQaeda to attack the Bill of Rights with the Patriot Act. Not so different. Rick "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross." Some incidents have them coming in from the north and south by paying the drug cartells to help them gain safe passage. I read about the stuff I'm talking about around two months ago on various news sources. Google some of this and see what you find. | |

http://kvoa.com/Global/story.asp?S=2545055 Good evening. In August, The Investigators on Eyewitness News 4 first reported the possible threat of terrorists using the Arizona/Mexico border to cross into the U.S. While local government officials and immigration advocates questioned the validity of such a threat, our report, "Terrorist Alley," gained national attention. Just a few weeks ago, high-level sources told a Washington newspaper that Chechen terrorists have entered the U.S. through our state. Now, we've uncovered even more evidence that the threat along our border is real. "The story you did was 100% accurate. It showed what's happening on the border on a daily basis. It was completely accurate," says a Border Patrol agent. This Southern Arizona Border Patrol agent came forward to talk with The Investigators about his concerns regarding homeland security along the Arizona/Mexico border. He does not want to be identified, but we've verified his employment through pay stubs and high-level sources. As our cameras had captured this day, hundreds of illegal entrants sneak into Arizona from Mexico. Items left behind, like a Muslim prayer rug and a diary written in Arabic have led some to believe not all crossers are from Central and South America. In our original story.sources. including a former Border Patrol supervisor, say people from terrorist-related countries are crossing the border at will. This agent says it's certainly happened, describing one incident with a detainee near Naco, Arizona. "So they took him back to the Naco station for further investigating there, and when they entered his fingerprints into the AFIS database, which is maintained by the FBI, several minutes later they received a phone call from someone on the other end -- I'm not sure who it was." "and they stated, whoever is working on this particular terminal, they need to separate that gentleman right away. He was later determined to be from Pakistan. And he had affiliations with a terrorist group. It wasn't al-Qaida, but it was another terrorist group and this gentleman was wanted out of France for trafficking in heroin." And he details another incident.just a few months ago. "We received intel that seven males of Middle-Eastern descent had entered the United States illegally, and they were here to carry out a terrorist attack on this country. I'd never seen the agency go to the level that we did as far as treating it with such urgency." "and when we got that information we immediately sent agents to patrol the highways. We had never done anything like that before. And like I said before, within a week, there I am, watching the nightly news, and the terror threat was raised, and they actually showed pictures of these seven men who had reportedly entered the country. And that's when it kinda really hit me for the first time that it's really happening." "We were told specifically that these people had terrorist pasts and they were coming here specifically to carry out a terrorist attack." As far as we know, no arrests were ever made in that case, but this Border Patrol agent says he's been told that other terrorists are, perhaps, lying in wait south of the border. "We know it's happening. We've seen it. We've actually received hard intelligence that they're there in Mexico. It's just a matter of trying to keep them from coming north." This agent says, if terrorists want to cross, it's become too easy for them because of a severe lack of manpower in the Border Patrol. "And there's just complete areas of fence that are missing, roads that lead north, well-traveled. I mean, you can tell the tire sign. A vehicle was there within the last day or two. Where they're going, who knows. And the worst part is what are they carrying. I would like to think it's just marijuana, because we can deal with that, but what if it's not?" And he says other resources are desperately lacking and keeping agents from adequately protecting our border with Mexico. "Over 50% of our vehicles at that station are out of service, or deferred for maintenance. If our cameras worked, which I would say well over 50% of them do not work at night, the infrared lenses are not functioning." Even before new agents are deployed, he says, they're not prepared to fight illegal entry into this country. "Some of our training, it lacks in that department. At the Academy we do three hours of training to determine if somebody is carrying fraudulent documents. And I can tell you from working the checkpoint, there are times people have given me documentation that I have absolutely no clue, as sad as it is to say that, what I'm looking at." This agent says there's enormous pressure to rush people through checkpoints, and he says agents can't take adequate time to check out suspicious individuals because there are too many of them and too few agents. He says the Border Patrol is at the mercy of bureaucrats in Washington who either don't realize the extent of the terrorist threat or who choose to deny it. "Before September 11, I tell people 'yeah, you can make arguments for anything you wanted 'cause we were relatively safe, or we thought we were. After September 11, everything changed, and to continue to do business as if September 11 never happened, which is what we do in our agency, I don't think that's acceptable and I think people in Arizona need to know what's really happening As you might imagine, the Border Patrol has plenty to say about this agent's claims, and we'll talk with Arizona Senator Jon Kyl about what you just saw and heard tomorrow night at 10.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.../15/wmex15.xml President Bush has launched a drive to halt illegal immigration across America's porous southern border, amid growing fears that terrorists may be using Mexico as a base camp before heading to Arizona, Texas and California. A string of alarming incidents has convinced Bush administration officials that lax immigration rules, designed to cope with the huge numbers of illegal entrants from Mexico, have become a significant loophole in the war on terror. Over the past month, border agents from Arizona and Texas have anonymously reported recent encounters with dozens of Arab men, who have made their way across the 2,000-mile Mexican border. Patrol agents told one Arizona newspaper that 77 males "of Middle Eastern descent" were apprehended in June in two separate incidents. All were trekking through the Chiricahua mountains and are believed to have been part of a larger group of illegal immigrants. Many were released pending immigration hearings. According to Solomon Ortiz, the Congressman for Corpus Christi in Texas, similar incidents are "happening all over the place. It's very, very scary". The two groups of Arab males were discovered by patrol guards from Willcox, Arizona. "These guys didn't speak Spanish," said one field agent, "and they were speaking to each other in Arabic. It's ridiculous that we don't take this more seriously. We're told not to say a thing to the media." A colleague told the paper: "All the men had brand-new clothing and the exact same cut of moustache." Local ranchers have also reported a rise in the sightings of large groups of young males. Last month, border patrol agents at McAllen airport, Texas, arrested a woman believed to be Pakistani, who was carrying a false South African passport. The woman, Farida Ahmed, is still being questioned by the FBI. She was travelling to New York, and admitted to having illegally crossed the Mexican border. She was still carrying a pair of wet jeans in her travel bag. More than 1.2 million people attempt to cross US borders illegally each year. The vast majority are Mexicans who are immediately repatriated. But under existing laws, which take account limited detention facilities, many non-Mexican illegal immigrants are released prior to a hearing with an immigration judge, which most fail to attend. Almost 22,000 non-Mexican immigrants have been released pending a hearing since last October. Once released, they are free to travel on their own throughout the United States. According to one Texas immigration official, those who slip through the net come "from all over the world". "If you want to enter the US illegally," said the official, "the way to do it is to get to Mexico first." The possibility of a southern border loophole for potential terrorists was recognised as early as last year. In testimony before Congress, Steve McCraw, the assistant director of the FBI's Office of Intelligence, stated that "the ability of foreign nationals to use [the hearings procedure] to create a well-documented but fictitious identity in the United States, provides an opportunity for terrorists to move freely within the US without triggering name-based watch lists. It also enables them to board planes without revealing their true identity". According to new laws, approved by President Bush and announced last week by the Homeland Security Department, illegal immigrants who are not Mexican will be repatriated within days, without a hearing. The effort comes in response to a prolonged campaign by Texas congressmen, who have argued that the president's home state was in danger of becoming a gateway to America for terrorists. In a letter to President Bush last week, Mr Ortiz wrote: "Law enforcement agencies across the south-west border are alarmed that the US is releasing thousands of OTMs [Other than Mexicans]. Those released include individuals from nations the US defines as state sponsors of potential terrorism, or from those nations that have produced large numbers of al-Qaeda militants." Mr Ortiz also claims that immigration officials have privately warned him that a number of suspicious foreigners have been detained on the Mexican border and then released, including some who claimed to have travelled from South and Central America but were unable to speak Spanish. The rules are to be tried out first in Tucson, Arizona, and Laredo, Texas. Any non-Mexican illegal immigrant found within 100 miles of the border, within 14 days of their arrival, will be immediately expelled. D'Wayne Jernigan, a sheriff in Del Rio, Texas, believes that the rule change should be immediately implemented across the entire Mexican border. Last month, immigration authorities told Sheriff Jernigan to release 17 Brazilians from his jail, before the FBI had located an interpreter in order to interview them. "My concern is, are we serious about terrorism?" said Sheriff Jernigan. "Or about homeland security? Because we're turning loose non-Mexicans by the thousands. Entering this country illegally is a crime, and we're turning our heads and ignoring it."

http://www.borderlandnews.com/storie...7-story1.shtml A Saudi terrorist suspect might be making his way to the U.S.-Mexico border amid groups of undocumented immigrants, officials with the FBI and the U.S. Embassy said. Officials on both sides of the border have asked law enforcement officials, including Border Patrol agents and El Paso¹s bridge inspectors, as well as the community at large to be on the lookout for Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, 29, a native of Saudi Arabia who may be using a Guyanese, Canadian or Trinidadian passport. Shukrijumah was spotted in Honduras earlier this year, FBI officials said, and used to reside in Trinidad and Tobago, off the coast of Latin America. "He is believed to be one of the most dangerous cell leader below the leadership of al-Qaeda who plans to hurt the United States," Art Werge, spokesman for the FBI in El Paso, said. Officials said Shukrijumah might be using immigrant-smuggling routes through Central America and Mexico to get to the border. Shukrijumah has reportedly received training in aircrafts and explosives, Werge said. He is about 132 pounds, 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-5 and occasionally wears a beard. He speaks English. There is a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture. For more information, visit, www.fbi.gov. Louie Gilot may be reached at lgilot@elpasotimes.com, 546-6131.

http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0322/p01s01-uspo.html WASHINGTON – Concern is growing at the top levels of government about the US-Mexican border becoming a back door for terrorists entering the United States. While Al Qaeda infiltration across the nation's southern border has been a constant concern since 9/11, US officials cite recent intelligence giving the most definitive evidence yet that terrorists are planning to use it as an entry point - if they haven't already. Al Qaeda seeks tie to local gangs http://www.washtimes.com/national/20...3346-3928r.htm A top al Qaeda lieutenant has met with leaders of a violent Salvadoran criminal gang with roots in Mexico and the United States — including a stronghold in the Washington area — in an effort by the terrorist network to seek help infiltrating the U.S.-Mexico border, law enforcement authorities said. Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, a key al Qaeda cell leader for whom the U.S. government has offered a $5 million reward, was spotted in July in Honduras meeting with leaders of El Salvador's notorious Mara Salvatrucha gang, which immigration officials said has smuggled hundreds of Central and South Americans — mostly gang members — into the United States. Although they are actively involved in alien, drug and weapons smuggling, Mara Salvatrucha members in America also have been tied to numerous killings, robberies, burglaries, carjackings, extortions, rapes and aggravated assaults — including at least seven killings in

| Moral Turnip Location: Oregon, US Posts: 2,283 | Well, how can I possibly argue with the weight of that much evidence? Let me ask y'all something. If al-Qaeda has been after us for years and years, with Saddam Hussein's backing, also for years and years, why haven't we suffered more terrorist attacks? Surely if they had thousands of suicide bombers, we would have been hit more oten than we have. If terrorists have been creeping across the Mexican border since before 9/11 -- Chechen terrorists, no less -- why haven't we been hit by terrorists in this country since 9/11? They've managed to hit Madrid, Indonesia, London, and now Amman; why not us? Israel has been dealing with Paelstinian terrorist groups for decades; not a day goes by that you don't hear about another shooting, another suicide bombing. If the terrorists there are so capable, so determined, what's up with our terrorists? "Would you like some pie, Dr. Stark?" "Science is my pie. Curiosity, my sweet tooth. Knowledge is my candy." |

Then GBA jumps in claiming that is indeed correct and posting articles that are long on innuendo and short on fact. Not so different from his ranting on WMD. Bizarre, if amusing. There are terrorists here, and before 9-11 there were previous acts of terror by Muslims and even on the twin towers. Saddam became more his own WMD by financing terror outside of Iraq with homicide bombers, and nobody liked him sending death squads out to kill other heads of state either. So he was due if that is what you were referring to.

We have borders and there are laws regarding the border and entering in place. Those that cross without paying attention to the laws are criminal and those doing so with the intent to harm us are terrorists. What's your solution to dealing with people who want us all dead? We either get them to behave or we have to kill them all, the other alternative of you cutting off your head and giving it to them would be unacceptable.
