| Moral Turnip Location: Oregon, US Posts: 2,283 | Suggestions? Sure, I got suggestions. I was wondering what ideas everyone else has, since I am not a political activist, and make no claims to be one; maybe some of you are. I was mostly trying to get people thinking about action, instead of the too-frequent American response: shake the head, say, "Man, that sucks. Somebody oughtta do something." and then go open a new bag of chips (preferably Ruffles). Personally, I think people don't make enough use of the "information age" we live in today. I keep hearing that information is the new basis for the economy, that information is power, that information is money; and yet, I don't see it being used for political gain. At least, not by the opposition: Republicans under Karl Rove used information masterfully to engineer the current administration's rise to power. I see on FoxNews that the world will soon be destroyed by terrorists; why don't I see on my local channel that the terrorist threat is overblown to keep people in line? I see people here discussing the problems with the administration; do you try to spread this information in other arenas? I'm not trying to imply anything, I'm really asking; I don't know you people. I do my small part: I am a teacher, and I discuss politics with my students, and I try to show the other side (most of my students and their families are conservative here, so my side is usually the "other side."). I also write letters to my local paper, trying to get more people to hear alternate ideas about Iraq and Katrina and GWB. I don't know that we need to get this administration out; I don't think the damage is irreparable. What we need to do is show people that GWB has been bad for the country, and that other people like him would be bad for the country, and for the world. We do that by talking, by writing, by showing people the truth -- or at least another side of it. We need to ensure that the country moves in a different direction, and now, with all of the scandals, seems the perfect moment to do it. My suggestions? Go tell people. If you already do, add another group, another forum for your views to the ones you have. That's what I did; I spoke with my voice, and I spoke with my writing; now I'm trying to find ways to speak through my computer. Do all of you do all three? If not, maybe you could add one. Any other ideas? For effective protests, or movements, or symbols people can rally behind (Cindy Sheehan comes to mind, but she's concerned with only one issue.), or any other action we can take? "Would you like some pie, Dr. Stark?" "Science is my pie. Curiosity, my sweet tooth. Knowledge is my candy." |

Or should we be doing more? I say: Yes, you should be investing in some nice assault, sniper type rifles. Preferably with interchangeable ammo so stocking up on ammunition is easier, and use of such under pressure is easier. ( I would suggest a good combination such as an Springfield Armory M-14 in caliber .308/7.62 NATO, as well as a good 1000 yard optics coupled with a Remington 700 also chambered for .308/7.62 NATO.) Hopefully you will start practicing immediately and adopting tactics that are best suited to guerilla type warfare, since most of the revolution will entail small pockets of resistance fighting larger groups of federal agents in one uniform or another. I would advise picking up a field manual for U.S. small arms from your local surplus store, as well as getting together a solid backpack that contains a tent, survival knife, waterproof matches, compass, entrenching tool, personal and gun cleaning supplies, 3 canteens, water purification tablets, 7-piece military issue cookware set, 3 changes socks/underwear, gloves(preferably one waterproof set, one outer layer set), camouflage kit of at least 3 commonly found colors for all seasons, a holster for whichever rifle you plan to stow while traveling, 3 packets of chemical heat, a nice pair of field binoculars and a laser range finder, a small crank operated emergency field radio, a first aid kit that has assorted sized bandages/disinfectant/surgical supplies/trauma kit/aspirin/caffeine tabs/splints and wraps, condoms, needle/thread, faraday capacitor flashlight(everlight), 2 ponchos, one zippo with extra fuel, fishing line and hooks, as many MRE's as you can carry balanced with as much ammunition as you can carry. (If you are not a very physical person, you could always select a .223/5.56 NATO rifle combo to lighten the load carried, however, this comes at the expense of range and lethality. In this caliber however, you could get by with only one rifle if necessity dictates. I would recommend an AR-15 Heavy Barrel rifle, with a good glass capable of at least 600 yards zeroed standard at 300 yards. Don't forget to plan on carrying at least 8, 30 round magazines with extra ammo in backpack.) Supplies can always be stowed, if the situation deems base camp set-up. If being forced to be on the move at all times it will make travel harder, but the supplies are worth the extra effort. Remember the saying...... the more thou bleedeth in training, the less thou bleedeth in combat. Pick up a copy of "Basic Field Tactics" and "Rogers Rangers" from your local surplus store, study it, and be prepared for what is eventually almost inevitable. After doing all of that, be ready to actually use it when the time comes. | Principled Observer Location: Toledo, Ohio Posts: 13,873 | Patrick, I am working daily to see it doesn't come to that. My local Senators, Congressman, Governor, Mayor and all Ohio elected officials probably know me by name though they never met me. The problem though, is monumental. The slippery slope is now being pissed on by elected officials to make it even slipprier, and stomping any hands that come near to a solid handhold. I am with you Pat, and when you make your next Ohio stand to rally in petition or grivance, contact me for another shoulder to hold signs and march. If I could come to Hawaii, I would have already been to see you but as you know, my budget doesn't allow for air-travel, nor would I support them if I could help it. We the people need to unify, before any action or threat is taken seriously. That is why I am urging ALL people to sign the DEMAND for Redress of Grievance petition. http://www.givemeliberty.org/Freedom...etitionFed.htm It is our last chance at unity in acheiving any kind of real accountability, and letting the majority corrupt Senate and House know we the people are actually still awake at all. Yes, I am for diplomacy a hundred percent. IT is hard to be diplomatic once your in the car wearing shackles though..... your hand is significantly weakened. This is why everyday we watch non-violent, illegal drug possession offenders being arrested, is another day we are losing people with the WILL to oppose bad laws, and oppressive government. People of will and intent are being culled by the minute, through unconstitutional laws and illegal precedents, and as it happens the majority stand and watch without even raising a voice. The time is coming for a zenith of either public support through legislation, or public support through revolution, and I think the representatives are well aware of the path they are forcing us to take.
