Civil rights pioneer Rosa Park died

Rosa Lee Parks, whose act of defiance in 1955 - refusing to give up her bus seat to a white man - was to change the course of American history, died Monday. She was 92.

At least she lived long enough to see the results of her courage and defiance.

Indeed it seems that when the most timid among us stand our ground that things really start happening.

If only more people were willing to make some small sacrifice.

I wish people would not only take the time to respect the woman, but take the time to understand why she stood her ground, why her mission is still not complete, and why we are fools for not having her courage to stand up against the abuse today.

I commend Rosa Parks, and all those who share her spirit and determination to liberty and justice.

She was a classic, a model for all Americans, both for the one day fifty years ago when she said "no" and refused to give up her seat, and for all the days since. She was the archetype for speaking truth to power. She will always be a personal hero.

I lived in the south about the time Ms Parks made her brave stand against the oppressive and unfair approach taken to civil rights in those days. It took courage to do it and this brave woman had an ample supply of that! I salute her for the push she gave to the abolution of racism! She fits the title of a heroine!

Thus we play the fools with the time, and the spirits of the wise sit in the clouds and mock us.

You know, if you really think so much of a person, you ought to at least get her name correct in the title of the thread. I know we aren't supposed to be concerned with spelling in here, but all the honors, accolades, and eulogies ring kind of hollow if you can't even get her name correct.

Its not that some of us didn't know it was correct, we just didn't think it outweighed the meaning or sought to correct it as the FIRST order of business in the posts.

Thanks.

Many people tried to stand up in Rosa's time before her, but she seemed to stick. It took a great deal of courage, nonetheless. Every time I try to imagine being in her shoes... well. May her soul rest in peace, and may her spirit thrive.

I am a fool, but I wouldn't compare my situation to Rosa's. It's not that bad yet. When the time comes, we can draw strength from Rosa and other heroes of her cause throught history. I'm pretty sure every race has been enslaved by another at some time in history. I'm probably wrong. Rosa has lived and died thousand times (not a religious statement). Remember her strength.

Rosa just didn't stand for racial equality.

Enslavement can take many, MANY different forms, and economic enslavement as we have now, is the most corrupt, hard to decipher and understand, as well as the hardest to combat.
