    Simple logic:

if the USPS can offer below market prices for their service, then they must be getting money from the government.
A hell of a lot of people use USPS. It doesn't require a lot of subsidies to run something that many, many, many people use. As far as I know, there aren't a lot of subsidies other than the ones I mentioned previously.

The USPS is the most common sense government program out there.

It's true that they offer below market prices.

FedEx and UPS can't match their rates.

The only way it's possible for any business to offer below market prices is to either be subsidized by the government or run at a loss.

In either case, it means they're getting money from the government to stay afloat.

If infinite people used it, then the best possible thing they can do is offer their service at market price.

    But never below market price!

It's an archaic system that is unreliable to boot. I'd mail everything UPS or FedEx if they offered letter service but they can't since the USPS has a government supported monopoly on that.

It's exactly like AT&T used to be: a goverment supported monopoly.

Now we have SBC, Qwest, and Verizon which offers more competition and thus better service for the money.

I haven't lost a single package using the USPS. I can get things to places quite fast.

It seems like you would mail things FEDEX and UPS for ideological reasons.

You have no concept of people other than yourself!

The total money that they would be receiving to run their service wouldn't change!!!

The only thing that would happen is that the people who use the service would now support it 100% instead of only partiall supporting it and them getting the rest through taxes.

I've lost many packages and had others broken as well as lost/stolen mail. A horrible service overall.

Oh, thsi coming from a guy who supports sweatshops.
Yeah, I take such insults from you very seriously. Am I the only one who is glad to not pay over 37 cents? Is it me being selfish or might other people think it's good to not see the stamp price increase?
People would have to be stupid to want to pay more money to send a letter.

It's never happened to me and I've sent mail to Japan. Maybe you should try using another post office.

I've done some research on this japan postal privatization. It appears mail has nothing to do with it. The japan postal service provides two other services which is savings and insurance. It is the saving and insurance services that big banking in japan was after and got. This of course will cause large numbers of japanese women to loose their jobs, as they make up for much of the work force. The people will be gouged for fees to handle their savings and insurance. Big business wins, the little people loose, so what else is new.

    Get a fucking grip man.

You pay tax, you get a service, get the fuck over it. In your ideal world, you would pay 0 taxes and still demand some govt. You are not an anarchist are you? Why don't you just suck it up and move to New Hampshire (Live free or fucking die) and pay a shitload in property taxes cause there is no income tax and no sales tax.

Your "I am so oppressed" bullshit is getting nauseating.

When did I ever say that, moron?!

Obviously if we pay zero taxes then we should expect no govt. services.
