Why is it that so many minarchists call themselves Libertarian?
As far as I understand it, the end cumulation of all Libertarian thought is the total absence of government and the installation of a True Free Market.
Of course, many of these same Minarchists are from the US, which boasts a "Libertarian Party" something which I find both confusing and disturbing. How can there be a political party for a doctrine that wishes to abolish government control? True it is a stepping stone on the path to freedom, but if it is the end product, or becomes the end product, then have we, libertarians, not failed?
Minarachy is a hypocracy, it is a required step but no more than this, to hope otherwise is to take a defeatest stance and say "we will never win, this is the best we can hope for" and in hoping for this, we defeat ourselves and maintain that which we are against.

of course, I could just be a crazy cankuck who doesn't know anything, right?

I find myself tending towards the anarchist camp many times, but still call myself libertarian because I am not sure that an anarchist system of justice would work - its just too hard to contemplate.

Libertarianism does, in fact, hold on to government: court system, national defense, and possibly police.

Minarchism is basically libertarianism but will many smaller regional governments without a centralized core (federal).

also realize that the 'government' which libertarianism wishes to downsize is the coercive type. Government comes in all forms, and sizes: a homeowners association IS a government structure - it is just denied employing force by itself - that very special function is reserved for the sole, monopolistic use by the State (National government, or state government). THAT is the type of government that libs focus upon.
