Fema

I heard a report on CNN today that was sort of an exposé talking about your tax dollars at work. They mentioned a place in NC that some of the top geologists say was stupid to build houses on cause of the guarantee that either a hurricane or high seas will destroy them. And they have -many many times over. The stubborn people keep rebuilding the houses and the real estate market demands the houses, multi million dollar houses. So you are probably thinking "So whats the problem?" Well FEMA is using your tax dollars to constantly rebuild these gigantic houses for these stubborn idiots. Thats what pisses me off. I have searched and searched for an article on the web but came up empty. This shit pisses me off. I can understand FEMA going in to help victims of flood or a one time deal but over and over again these dumbasses keep wanting to rebuild those mansions with our tax money and I just wanted to see what every one else has to say about it. Has anyone else heard about this? (I wish CNN would post the article online)

So it's ok for the government to help the poor, but not ok for them to help the rich.

I guess having money makes it impossible to succumb to the effects of weather.

Are you kidding me!?

You are for FEMA constantly rebuilding mansions?

If the stubborn asswipes want to rebuild their homes more than once let them do it on their own dime. Let the govt support go to those who truly need it instead.

Last I heard, FEMA regulations forbid a permit from being issued if the repairs total more than 50 percent of the home's value. The value of land is not allowed to be considered in this.
They may have helped these people get low interest loans.

I'll go to CNN and see if I can find something, because I've heard that all people get in disaster relief is temporary shelter and low interest loans.

There were lots of slides in CA after all the rains and all people could get with tax dollars was low interest loans....

No It was some Island in NC that they said would be severely damaged every time a hurricane came through. There was a law that limited FEMA to help but FEMA waived that law somehow lately.

It happened right here in Utah. A bunch of rich pricks built on a hillside. Everyone warned them that it was a mudslide area. They couldn't even get insurance the risk was so bad.

Thier houses were demolished and the taxplyers picked up the tab. Sociolism at work friends.

Yeah I am sure it happens all over. It pisses me off in general. I am surprised that tman is not pissed off about it, being the big libertarian that he is.

Things like this are slowly being accepted by the bleeding heart, soft society that we live in. But theya re not even "bleeding heart" because they do stuff with other people's money, instead of actually directly helping thier neighbors. What hypocrits.

I think it happens through GRANTS which FEMA can make from their 20 million dollar reserve.
It may only be applied AFTER the President had declared an area a disaster area.

The GRANTS can also be turned into loans it seems

Got the information from here:

FEMA Mitigation Grant Programs
http://www.fema.gov/fima/mitgrant.shtm

Seems to be a mostly one page read and worth a stop by anyone reading this thread IMO.

Have a good one.
